Crispin was actually “in character” from the album that he was also plugging that night on Letterman’s show, but most people didn’t know that and didn’t get it. It was still profoundly foolish what Crispin did that night. Crispin is weird anyways, and he has always led a strange life.

I saw that performance on Letterman via the magic of YouTube. No doubt in my mind it was a put-on. He’s messing with people, that’s all. It gets him to be a topic of conversation. Great stuff.

After hearing about this for days and finally watching it, I don’t think it is that weird. He is probably smoked up and paranoid, but I was expecting something much more extreme. Letterman isn’t any prize himself.
