I haven’t wasted my time on the Ocsars, the Grammies, Beauty pageants, TV talent shows, etc., since the pre-cable TV days. Back when we had six channels all of these were 100 times more entertaining and real. You could say the same about the balance of the line-up as well. Night after night the wife and I flip through all the Direct TV channels and find nothing on worth watching, and night after night we resort to our DVD collection of TV programs back when TV was fun. Last night it was shows from the first season of Star Trek.

Don’t know if this would be to your taste, but may I respectfully make some suggestions?

They’re not kid-stuff and some of the language and situations are distinctly adult (as opposed to childish-adult), but I was massively entertained and there’s hours of goods here:

Firefly
Dead Like Me
State of Play
Hustle
Midsomer Murders
Inspector Morse

Lately, I’ve been scouring the back lists at NetFlix. Things I’ve found: Yasuhiro Ozu (brilliant Japanese family drama), Charlie Chan, and a fascinating collection of Yiddish films from the ‘30’s and ‘40’s, many starring Molly Picon. There’s plenty more and I get ‘em for about 25/month. I’m seriously considering dropping cable altogether and just letting Internet in.
