Here is video of President and Mrs. Obama meeting with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip today at Buckingham Palace. The Obamas shake hands with the Queen and engage in some chit-chat. Then, it was time for a photo-op and they turn to face the camera. Prince Philip gently tries to usher Michelle Obama into place on the far right, but notice how she instead moves in front of the Prince and stands beside the Queen. Prince Philip quietly moved over to the far right. The video does not show Obama giving the Queen an Ipod. . . . . . (Watch Video)

If it’s serious, myabe he should have given her a boxed set of movie sequels....
Obama looked like a schoolboy...he didn’t know what to do. He shook hands then tried to bow. God help us! We’ve put in a 3 stringer when we need a 1st string QB.

Prince Philip never dreamed he would see this day.
I was prepared to see this as a faux pas from nervousness but Michelle seems quite deliberately to disregard the Prince’s direction.
Almost looked like Shelly was going to ask the Prince to go get her a drink (isn’t he like those guys I got at the White House?).
This wasn't a faux paux on the part of our First Lady, nor was it unintended on the part of His Highness. It was a graceful indication of where he thought the First Lady should stand, next to the Queen.
Michelle knew where she wanted to stand and no short honkey was going to stand in her way.
Queenie wanted to stand next to the Queen, not the consort. I thought she was supposed to curtsy?

You know, I don’t know the intricacies of curtseys to foreign royalty. I remember people having a fit because President Bush didn’t address the Pope as “Your Holiness” and someone pointed out that since Bush wasn’t Catholic, the rules didn’t apply. I wonder if curtseys are expected of subjects but not foreigners? Obviously I am no protocol expert.
