Obama's Gobbledygook Double-Speak Speech On Auto Industry
Start Thinking Right ^ | April 2, 2009 | Michael Eden

I watch Barack Obama speak - with his ever-present teleprompter to help him keep all his lies straight and prevent him from butchering the English language worse than 'Dubya' on his worst day - and I wonder: how does his head not explode trying to contain all the contradictions?

Remember when Obama preached on his commitment to end pork spending and earmarks while back-to-back signing porkulus and an omnibus bill containing nearly 9,000 earmarks? Remember Obama preaching "fiscal responsibility" while at the very same time racking up more spending that ALL the past presidents in history, from George Washinton to George Bush, combined?

How is it that he isn't doing one of his myriad televised appearances when all of a sudden - BOOM! - there goes his skull?

Listening to Obama's auto industry speech yesterday amounted to a continuous soliloquy of double-speak. Obama said:

We cannot, we must not, and we will not let our auto industry simply vanish. This industry is, like no other, an emblem of the American spirit; a once and future symbol of America’s success. It is what helped build the middle class and sustained it throughout the 20th century. It is a source of deep pride for the generations of American workers whose hard work and imagination led to some of the finest cars the world has ever known. It is a pillar of our economy that has held up the dreams of millions of our people. But we also cannot continue to excuse poor decisions. And we cannot make the survival of our auto industry dependent on an unending flow of tax dollars. These companies –- and this industry -– must ultimately stand on their own, not as wards of the state.
And you think, "Okay. Obama is going to bail out the auto industry." GM has flat-out stated that it needs another government bailout to survive.

And then, in the very next breath, Obama says:

That is why the federal government provided General Motors and Chrysler with emergency loans to prevent their sudden collapse at the end of last year –- only on the condition that they would develop plans to restructure. In keeping with that agreement, each company has submitted a plan to restructure. But after careful analysis, we have determined that neither goes far enough to warrant the substantial new investments that these companies are requesting. And so today, I am announcing that my administration will offer GM and Chrysler a limited period of time to work with creditors, unions, and other stakeholders to fundamentally restructure in a way that would justify an investment of additional tax dollars; a period during which they must produce plans that would give the American people confidence in their long-term prospects for success.
And so, you think, "Okay, so Obama's NOT going to bail out the auto industry. He's going to let it fail and go into bankruptcy (which is what we should have allowed to happen in the first place, in my humble opinion).

But that "I won't let you fail, even though I'm giving you the Judas kiss of death" routine was just the beginning of Obama's brain-twisting contortions of reality.

Obama said:

"Let me be clear: the United States government has no interest or intention of running GM."
Which is just bizarre coming out of the mouth of a man who a couple of days before had FIRED the CEO of GM. Do you know which president last fired the CEO of a corporation? VLADIMIR FREAKING PUTIN, that's who.

And the guy who says, "the United States government has absolutely no interest or intention of running GM" doesn't seem to mind running Chrysler one iota:

"That is why we will give Chrysler and Fiat 30 days to overcome these hurdles and reach a final agreement."
And Obama says of this shotgun wedding between Fiat and Chrysler:
"and, after working closely with my team, has committed to building new fuel-efficient cars and engines here in America."
And the guy who swears up and down that he isn't running the auto industry just made auto warranties a function of the US government:
But just in case there are still nagging doubts, let me say it as plainly as I can –- if you buy a car from Chrysler or General Motors, you will be able to get your car serviced and repaired, just like always. Your warranty will be safe. In fact, it will be safer than it’s ever been. Because starting today, the United States government will stand behind your warranty.
Obama isn't running the auto industry. Nope. They just have to do everything he says, fire everyone he wants them to fire, and build the cars that Obama wants them to build. While he takes over the warranties. But no "running" here, folks!

A host of major articles, from the Politico, from the Detroit News, from The Hill, from the Wall Street Journal, flat-out call Obama the "CEO" of the auto industry in a blatant repudiation of the baldfaced Obama lie. He is taking over and socializing as much of the economy as he can.

And the new CEO of the auto industry frankly doesn't give a damn about the stockholders of that industry. It's all about politics for Barack Obama, and about political correctness, and nothing at all about building the vehicles that buyers actually want.

The Democrat governor of Michigan, Gov. Jennifer Granholm, called GM CEO Rick Wagoner "a sacrificial lamb." And why isn't Obama calling for UAW head Gettlefinger's head? Because he's on the hook for the unions, that's why.

The problem with green cars is that they don't grow money. Even the supposedly oh-so-successful Toyota Prius is a money-loser.

Rush Limbaugh was suitably outraged:

Politics is going to run General Motors, not business. That's what the Treasury department's viability report said. Twenty vehicles that GM makes -- they make more than that, of course -- but 20 vehicles they make show a profit, and 11 of those 20 vehicles are trucks and SUVs, and these models are slated to be dropped. In the meantime, and I have this story deep down here in the Stack of Stuff, you know what the most popular car in Iraq is, among the newly free there? The Hummer. The Hummer. They love the Hummer. They're buying Hummers, the people in Iraq who can afford it, are buying Hummers out the wazoo. Now, I want you to do a side-by-side comparison here. Iraq, which is just now emerging from the seventh century, thanks to us, their citizens are able to, those who can afford it, and more and more are, to go out and buy Hummers. We, in the greatest nation in the history of the earth, the richest, the most prosperous, are preparing to tell our citizens, "You can't have a Hummer; you can't have a Suburban; you can't have an SUV. You gotta go electric; you gotta go hybrid." I mean the side-by-side comparison here is just stunning.
Beyond the taking away of your right to buy and drive what you want to buy and drive, Rush Limbaugh points out that the only way people will buy the dinky little gutless green jobs Obama intends to force car makers to build is if gasoline is back over $4 a gallon again. And that, presto-bismo, Obama is working on an energy policy that will all but guarantee the price of gas skyrockets again.

Obama wants to get this country over it's "addiction" to oil. He demagogues foreign oil to have a suitable villain; but the problem is he demonizes DOMESTIC oil even more in his actual policies. And oil, whether foreign or domestic produces so much more energy at so much less cost than any other alternative that it is absolutely unreal.

Liberals will call that a "conspiracy theory." But the day it comes true and gas prices start soaring again due to Obama's energy policies I will be joining Rush in the chorus of, "I TOLD you so!" With gasoline prices soaring again, Obama will be able to reduce the "demon oil" by making you pay up the wazoo for it; and he'll be able to force you to buy his stupid green cars.

The government has been saddling the auto manufacturers with burdensome regulations and requirements for decades. The banking and financial services industries that created the economic disaster weren't "deregulated"; they were rather the MOST regulated industries in the country! And in the same vein, the auto industry that is failing isn't failing because the government has not regulated it and unionized it enough; it is failing because the government has over-regulated and over-unionized it to the point of death.

There is no question that Barack Obama wants to "guide" or "steer" the US auto industry into a bankruptcy that he can shape and mold into his own image. With that the words of Ayn Rand from Atlas Shrugged provides a natural ending - and warning - to this article:

"One of the methods used by statists to destroy capitalism consists in establishing controls that tie a given industry hand and foot, making it unable to solve its problems, then declaring that freedom has failed and stronger controls are necessary."

I watch Barack Obama speak - with his ever-present teleprompter to help him keep all his lies straight...

If he has no memory of what teleprompter told him to say yesterday, is it a lie if teleprompter tells him to say the opposite today?

An interesting philosophical question - and quite likely a future defense: “I wasn’t lying: I was merely saying whatever the hell the teleprompter told me to say.”

Check out the scripts written for Algonquin J. Calhoun. (Google)

I think the same writer is filling the Teleprompter for our Maximum Leader. In re Auto Industry: I would be very surprised if this (hoperfully) ex-doper could change a tire.
