Black Conservatives: Crucified by the Left, Ignored by the Right!
http://www.lloydmarcus.com/?cat=5 ^ | 06-29-2009 | Lloyd Marcus

At a tea party in Lakewood Ranch Florida, I invited all veterans to join me on stage as I sang “God Bless the USA” in tribute to them. It was truly a moving experience. Veterans, old, young and active service men and women came forward. The audience applauded wildly expressing their love for them. Such tributes NEVER happen at left wing secular progressive events. Their goal is ALWAYS about tearing down America, as opposed to Celebrating America, which I do in my original song, “Celebrate America”.

Regarding the “hyphenated American issue”. I begin every rally/tea party with, “I am NOT an African-American! I am Lloyd Marcus...AMERICAN!!!” I am stunned by how powerful this proclamation has been with audiences. It really strikes an emotional chord. People come with tears in their eyes to thank me. These patriots crave unity as Americans. They say it is fine to honor one's heritage but, first and foremost, we should be Americans embracing our traditions, language and culture.

Frances Rice, Chairman, National Black Republican Association (NBRA.info) gave an amazing, passionate and informative speech at the Lakewood Tea Party. Sadly, most blacks who are enslaved on the liberal plantation will never hear Rice's powerful reasons for blacks to vote differently. Frances with her passion, facts and figures, and I, with my singing, humor and heartfelt appeal, would be a GREAT tag team at events targeted to getting the TRUTH to black Americans.

As singer/songwriter of the “American Tea Party Anthem” which I have performed at tea parties around the U.S., only Bill Hemmer on Fox News has interviewed me. Hannity aired my anthem April 15th on his program without showing my black face. Meanwhile, Garafalo gets away with saying the tea parties are only white tea bagging redneck racists. I'm the black elephant in the middle of the tea party movement living room ignored by the MAJOR conservative media.

I sincerely appreciate and thank God for the bloggers, radio and conservative websites. You guys have embraced me and my music. But, to most of America, black conservatives are as rare as Bigfoot sightings.

Frustrated, I keeping asking, why aren't strong conservatives like Frances Rice, myself and others supported and featured on Hannity, Beck, Rush and others. Black conservatives are crucified by the left and ignored by the right. We will keep fighting the 'good fight' because we are God ordained to do so. As the famous line in the Blues Brothers movie, “We're on a mission from God!” It's in out hearts. But candidly, WE NEED HELP! God bless, Lloyd

One of the big problems with the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is that it isn't all that vast!

Conservatism is about merit. They get the notoriety they earn ... no more and no less than their white brethren. Conservatism doesn’t need internal affirmative action. We are already equal.

You have to hang in there. I have met gotten to know many fine conservative Blacks and I cannot begin to tell you how much I admire them. I know many other Blacks who vote Democrat but are as socially conservative as any Republican I have ever known. I don’t know what it’s going to take, but there has to be a tipping point when the dam begins to split and shatter and a flood of Blacks comes rushing into the conservative political ranks where they truly belong. If you have any suggestions for hastening that day, I (and many other conservatives) are more than prepared to listen.

I take pride in being able to call myself an AMERICAN, although I was born and raised in another country. There is no space for hypernated American; One is either an American or Not.

You are either with us or against us kind of thing.

PROUD of you, Lloyd and God Bless you.

Lloyd I have an honest question to ask of you; as you happen to be human, black, and by choice a conservative (and probably Christian too..am I wrong?)? How do we as conservatives best reach other blacks (who may share our values but becuase their families, friends always have) always vote Democratic?

I know we need to appeal to their reason, morality, and probably stress like qualites as we conservaitves agree with them on marriage, abortion, immigration, school choice, government debt..

Should Republicans run their own candidates in majority minority districts, or should we conseratives support independent conservative candidates in those districts, or should we (dare I say it): Advocate for Conservaitve blacks to take on their elected represnetatives in those disctricts from within the Democratics Party??

What are your thoughts, as you may have more knowlege on how to reach fellow blacks (though we are really individuals created by God not races, you probably know that culture better than I)..?

Lloyd,

I was at the Lakeland Ranch tea party you sang at this past Sunday and stood proud as my e-Navy veteran husband helped carry out our nations flag and watched just as proudly as you sang in tribute to our troops.

I literally got goosebumps listening to Mrs. Rice; chants of “she’s fantastic!”, “she’s kicking butt!” and “WOW!” were all I heard from those around me as and those praises lasted long after she had left the stage. Hubby and I met with friends, both new and old, for drinks after the tea party where we could not stop talking about about Mrs. Rice and her speech.

It is not conservative Americans who are ignoring black conservatives; it is those who claim the public face of conservatism that do this, at their own peril.

I hope to be able to see you and Mrs. Rice many more times in person and pray that I turn on Rush or Hannity or Levin listen as you are invited to share your American story and love of country that runs through all conservatives, irregardless of skin color.

"I know many other Blacks who vote Democrat but are as socially conservative as any Republican I have ever known."

Actually, I beg to differ on their being "socially conservative", as the most sacred tenet of the Democratic Party is the social issue of a woman having the "right" to choose whether the fetus inside her is a baby or an unwanted mass of tissue.

Voting Democratic means accepting this, and in fact endorsing it.

Martin Luther King was a Republican in his day, and believe he would be today as well.

He knew that it was a complete sham to claim to be for "social justice" and not stand firmly FOR the sanctity of life.

He therefore could not hold his socially conservative values and ignore them in the voting booth.

But then MLK was a man of extraordinary character. Most of us accept far less of ourselves than he encouraged us to strive for.

excellent questions, sir!

American here of Hispanic descent (parents born in PR, migrated north and we came along) who learned later in life that I am not a hyphenated American. 24 years active duty in the Navy & Coast Guard had a lot to do with it.

For my part, the one thing that screws up alot of Black families in our country is the lack of a father in the household. This social tragedy also happens alot within Puerto Rican families, notably in the east coast cities and among the lower social economic strata.

Come up with and consistently implement a plan that can repair the damage done to the most fundamental building block of a society, and you’ll see that 90-93% pull-of-the-voting-lever-with-their-left-arm monopoly chip downwards.

I understand your position. I think he wants black people to know that black conservatives exist. I think he also wants to encourage other black conservatives to speak out.

Hi Lloyd,
I hope if you have some length of time in following Free Republic you would note that many conservatives that are quoted and cited on this forum thousands of times for over a decade have been black conservatives. Sowell, Williams, Shelby Steele, and countless others have been in the panarama of conservative thought that has been quoted, cited and studied for guidance and illumination. If we start with those three alone, not one week has passed I would imagine, that one or more isn’t quoted or discussed on this forum.

Cable TV is an entertainment business and while cited here during the Clinton impeachment efforts, Talk Radio wasn’t even on the radar screen here for serious discussion before about six years ago.

We, and others like us, set the conservative taste. Rush and all the rest just try to build an audience.
