As heard on Glenn Becks show today this is video of Anita Dunn discussing the tactics to be used in controlling the media and press.

For Example:

She talks about how they would use David Pluths videos to bypass having to talk to reporters. "We'd put those out and make them write what Pluth had said as opposed to Pluth doing an interview.."

Here is the video

Here is the video of Anita Dunn.

Clearly, the current move by the Left, and particularly the Administration, to silence dissent should shake the confidence of every American who treasures freedom, without regard to their political affiliation.

Thomas Jefferson, who was often attacked by the press of his day, spoke out strongly in defense of freedom of the press. His passion, of course, was defending liberty, not government control, unlike that of the current Congress and Administration.

These are only a few of his remarks on that subject:

"The press [is] the only tocsin of a nation. [When it] is completely silenced... all means of a general effort [are] taken away." --Thomas Jefferson to Thomas Cooper, Nov 29, 1802. (*) ME 10:341

"Since truth and reason have maintained their ground against false opinions in league with false facts, the press confined to truth needs no other legal restraint. The public judgment will correct false reasonings and opinions on a full hearing of all parties, and no other definite line can be drawn between the inestimable liberty of the press and its demoralizing licentiousness. If there be still improprieties which this rule would not restrain, its supplement must be sought in the censorship of public opinion." --Thomas Jefferson: 2nd Inaugural Address, 1805. ME 3:381

"The functionaries of every government have propensities to command at will the liberty and property of their constituents. There is no safe deposit for these but with the people themselves, nor can they be safe with them without information. Where the press is free, and every man able to read, all is safe." --Thomas Jefferson to Charles Yancey, 1816. ME 14:384

"Our liberty cannot be guarded but by the freedom of the press, nor that be limited without danger of losing it." --Thomas Jefferson to John Jay, 1786.

And, finally, but by no means the entirety of Jefferson's thoughts on the need for freedom of the press, no matter how critical its views:

"No experiment can be more interesting than that we are now trying, and which we trust will end in establishing the fact, that man may be governed by reason and truth. Our first object should therefore be, to leave open to him all the avenues to truth. The most effectual hitherto found, is the freedom of the press. It is, therefore, the first shut up by those who fear the investigation of their actions."(Underlining added for emphasis) --Thomas Jefferson to John Tyler, 1804. ME 11:33

"We controlled the press..."

Honey, it doesn't take a lot of brains to control a masochist. Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.

I really did not see anything too damaging here. Just strategy to manipulate how news would cover them and how to get their message to the voter without the filter of the media.

It’s all about control with these people. Nevermind the national good, or the feelings of the public.

“The functionaries of every government have propensities to command at will the liberty and property of their constituents.”

The million dollar quote. In this age, make that the trillion dollar quote.

Mao is her hero. He “fought his war”. Don’t confuse the woman by making judgments concerning Mao.

By the way, Hitler purported to be fighting his war, too.

Anita Dunn is very arrogant. She’s saying things that people already know but like to pretend aren’t going on.

As for her techniques to control the media, they worked, sure. But they would only work ona willing media. It’s like the guy who scores on the pretty girl. His “smooth operator” techniques only worked because she wanted him to undress her.

“Wait a minute... she was only quoting a REPUBLICAN about Chairman Mao..”

Have we seen a citation from Anita Dunn of where her purported
reading of Lee Atwater’s quote of Mao occurred?

Just asking...as I’ve not yet seen/heard any sort of mention from
Anita Dunn or The White House of “well, here’s where Lee Atwater
said this about Mao.”

Some Freepers have said they think Ms. Dunn got confused...
as Lee Atwater was apparently a fan of “The Art of War”.
Thus she may have confused Sun (? Tzu?) with Mao.

If she wants to influence the press bringing up Mao is probably not a good start. Who in American politics wants to leave quotes citing Mao as a an example of your thinking. Shoosh - this woman has lead a very protected existence. My guess, in less than two years she will become a sinking stone to the admin and will tossed under the Transformer Bus - Obamatron.
