Scozzafava is the "mean spirited" Republican your Democrat friends warned you about.

Dede Scozzafava is every bit the Liberal Republican the Grassroots has been warning about for weeks. Bowing to the political reality, reported in the Watertown Daily Times, "that Siena Research Institute poll numbers show her too far behind to catch up - and she lacks enough money to spend on advertising in the last three days to make a difference", Scozzafava announced this morning she was suspending her campaign. However, claiming that, "Today, I again seek to act for the good of our community," and, "I am and have always been a proud Republican," her actions reveal that nothing could be further from the truth. She did not withdraw from the race, she suspended her campaign. While the practical result is the same, the difference is telling.

While at first glance it appears that Scozzafava has done the right thing, a bit of reading reveals she is being petty, small and vindictive.

They can stop running against Scozzafava. It’s Owen they’ve got to beat.

Agreed. But the idea of the post wasn’t that we still needed to beat Scozzafava. It was commentary on her less than stellar behavior in clearing the way for Hoffman.

Yeah, she should have quit earlier. Quitting at this late date merely helps the Democrat.

Yes, as some of us have already noted, she did NOT endorse Hoffman. She told her followers that she was “releasing” them to vote for whoever they liked.

But this article raises a second problem, which I don’t think any of us have noticed.

She did not withdraw from the race, she suspended her campaign.

What does that mean? Either way, her name would remain on the ballot on the Republican line, because there isn’t time to remove it.

But if she withdrew, then Hoffman’s helpers could stand outside the polling places at the legal distance and tell voters that Dede had withdrawn and that the Republican party was now supporting Hoffman.

Can they do that if she is still technically in the race? Probably not. So she is still a spoiler.

She is behaving like the scuzz she is, all the way to the end. Apt conduct from a selfish baby killer.

Dede Schopozza is a true patriot in my book. She gracefully exited the race and was still very positive about the Republican party (of which Hoffman is now the defacto candidate)

If she will come out Monday and explicitly endorse Hoffman she would become a saint.

She’s playing both sides of the fence. She’s staying in the race in hopes of siphoning votes away from the conservative candidate.

If he ends up winning anyway, she can claim that it was because of her magnanimous gesture of stepping aside.

And did you feel this way when Sarah Palin "quit"? Or are you in bed with the RINOs?

Of course I was disappointed when Sarah quit. What are you talking about? I wanted Sarah to run for president and win in 2012. She can still do it but I think it will be more difficult.

And say what you will about Dede Schopizza, she is giving the momentum to Hoffman. I am glad she dropped out so now the GOP establishment can openly support Hoffman instead of dancing around him like they did yesterday.

There’s a lot of euphoria in previous FR postings out there for no reason. To figure out what the impact is, Hoffman’s campaign people are going to have to do some independent polling looking into Scuzzy’s pluses (determine why folks pledged to vote for her). How many are libs socialists etc vs laid back Republicans....If it is what I think it is, time to say a quick novena for a snow storm
While Hoffman hammers away about Pelosi and the heavy handed push for the 1900 plus pages in the House pork and tax Healthcare bill.

Because She might just be handing Owens the race using RNCCC money

The only thing healthy about that socialist creation (House healthcare) are the ammounts of money its going to cost...and it still won’t cure America’s health ...just make US sicker

I hope to see more of this in all the states. Koo-dos to Dede for bowing out, not sure if she did it for us or she saw it to be a loosing battle or the “sit on the fence” GOP saw which way the wind was blowing and instructed her to bow out. This, I feel shows the true power of the people. We need to magnify this. Why do you think they want to control the Internet, it's the last bastion of free speech, truth and information

That’s just it, she did NOT drop out. She is suspended not withdrawing. And I don’t see her supporting Hoffman. However, in this case I would like to eat my words.

Maybe there is some technicality involving campaign financing that makes it more attractive to "suspend" a campaign instead of pulling out altogether.

But in this case it could be resentment on her part that rank-and-file Republicans and out-of-state conservatives have put Hoffman ahead of her, the choice of the local party poohbahs.

I could be wrong, but I assumed she suspended to keep her war chest; since she released her endorsements to go elsewhere. I’ve since read she doesn’t have much of a war chest to keep. It does indeed appear that she’s being vindictive if she merely suspended to remain on the ballot to pull votes from Hoffman. If this is the case, I’d think the RNC would be done with her (We can hope.)

Actually, since she failed to endorse Hoffman immediately, even though just about all the rest of her supporters did, she does not come across as a true patriot.

If she waits any longer than about 6PM EST tonight, she won’t be a saint to anyone except the people at the DailyKos. She may be positive about the GOP but she is in a dwindling group. The entire reason for the grassroots uprising of the last 8 months is that the GOP failed to do what the grassroots are doing despite the GOP.

Not a lot to be positive about except when one looks forward and hopes that there will be a lot of Doug Hoffmans out there who owe there political success to THE PEOPLE and not THE PARTY.
