You may become the Lonely Guy......or the Maytag repairman here. Bush-bots and RINOs are not likely to admit same, let alone defend their position(which is clearly indefensable)
What they generally do is make a ludicrous statement, or tell a bald-faced lie. Then they call you a name, and scurry away like a rat ;-)

This is pure unadulterated BS and totally unfair to the great ones who are fighting the good fight against liberalism—like my great congressman, Steve King. Enough of this pessimism.

No it’s not.

Steve King is one of the good guys and the House Republicans have more patriots among them than the Senate does but the leadership is weaker than water.

What could be more worthless than the RNC? They, and most of the pubbies in congress, are suffering from a bad case of Potomac fever. They should be shouting from the rooftops about how bad Hussein and the Dems are but they are indeed “background noise” in Washington. Where are the TV spots condemning Obamacare? Why not do spots depicting Pelosi and Reid as the destructive socialists they are? It is n’t from a lack of money - they have plenty in the kitty.

“Go along to get along” is the prevailing attitude and it is causing all of us to suffer. My hat goes off to conservatives like Rep. King, Sen. DeMint and a few others but they are few and far between.

I'm sick of the pessimism on FR. Too many look for the worst and they find it impossible to see anything positive. I see lots that is positive and my disappointment in FR is profound.

The other day there was a similar thread running on FR about how the good Republicans like King and others were trying to be hushed by Republicans.

I didn't believe it. Having ties to King, I made a phone call to see if there was truth to the article.

I was assured that no one is trying to shut up King. I asked if Michael Steele is trying to shut up King and was told that it is doubtful that King has ever talked to Steele.

I simply do not believe all this pessimism and I have good reason to not believe it. I went to those most closely affect by these stories.

I see great reason for optimism. The core of Republicans we have right now in congress is excellent. They will never satsify some Freepers. They would rather whine and feel like victims.

Well, I hang out on another website as well and I can tell you that the liberal wing of the Republican party feels like they are being victimized and their voice has been taken away.

Maybe all those people feel victimized because they are being TRAMPLED by LIBERAL DEMOCRATS!

That’s where the opprobrium ought to be directed and plenty of it is.

Unfortunately, we have a political system that gives us very few ways to redress our grievances between elections. We don’t have “no confidence” votes as in England and we can’t recall a crummy congressperson when they ignore us and get out of line. That’s why you see frustration here, which is what you call pessimism. Conservatives DESPISE what’s being done to the country but short of illegal activity (and that seeps into the discussions here at times also, unfortunately) all we can do is write letters, make phone calls, and go to tea parties and town halls. Our “brave” representatives have chosen to tune all that out, for the most part. Thus, what you term pessimism exists here.

You cite Steve King as a good congressman and I agree with you. You are from Iowa - have you ever tried dealing with Tom Harkin? What if you were from a district where your congressman was like Harkin and your two senators also? Do you think you might be frustrated? Do you think you might get upset at the Republicans for not raising more hell, as the Dems did when Bush was in charge? You are seeing a lot of reaction to that type of representation here - FR is an outlet for people who feel disenfranchised by lousy politicians.

A few months ago, I had a decent congresswoman (Ginny Brown-Waite) to deal with but a hopeless RINO (Mel Martinez) and an idiot Democrat (Bill Nelson) in the Senate from Florida. Martinez quit and Charlie Crist - another true RINO and McCain suckup - replaced him with a party hack named George LeMieux. The jury is still out on him. All I’ve ever gotten from any of that crew is form letters and rude people answering my calls. That’s not pessimism, it’s the truth.

If you have faith in the Republican Party, fine - that’s your privilege. I don’t know how anybody could call it an effective force for conservatism or constitutional government as it is presently constituted. I hope that changes and more Steve King’s and the like assume a leadership role. I AM NOT making personal attacks on conservative congressmen who are on the level with their constituents. You have one, you like him, so God bless you! You are, sadly, in a small minority.

They are opposing democrats. They are calling it a failure. That is their main act right now (it's the best play.) What they are NOT doing is convincing us that they (Republicans) are any different than democrats. Would they just cook us slower? as Glen Beck put it?

Schiff: The Republicans are making a big deal about opposing some of these bills that Obama is promoting. But if Bush was promoting them they would all be for them and democrats would be opposing them. Look at all the big government bills we passed with all the republicans that voted for them when Bush was in the White House.

The RNC is a major part of the problem. They are mentally entrenched in that ‘go along to get along’ attitude and there is no point in trying to change or reform them. The entire RNC needs to be scrapped, new blood brought in, and start with a clean slate.

The RNC should be waging 100 percent, 24 hour a day, 7 day a week partisan warfare against the 0bamunist regime and their media lackeys. The spotlight should be kept continuously on Nasty Pelosi and her fascist behavior, ditto for that clown Steny Hoyer. The entire body of House Republicans should be doing everything possible to obstruct, delay, and shut down the ‘Rat agenda and that means throwing everything including the damn kitchen sink at those traitors.

And they should USE that word TRAITOR, for what we see in the House (and the Senate for that matter) is *TREASON*, any piece of legislation which violates the Constitution, which infringes upon the rights of We The People, constitutes TREASON and the word should go out, to the treacherous ‘Rats, to their 0bamunist fellow travelers, to the America-hating left, that TREASON will not be condoned nor tolerated.

We have witnessed over the past year a fascist regime of questionable legality taking over private businesses, dictating who will, and who will not be permitted to run those businesses, 0bamunist thugs literally attacking good and decent Americans exercising their right to oppose the government’s proposed health care grab, the parallel with Germany of the 1930s cannot be denied by any thinking American.

If the Republican Party is to save America, they have to start by demonstrating that they are NOT going to be part of the ‘business as usual’ garbage as they have been in the past.

The time for ‘bipartisanship’ is over. I reiterate; NOW is the time for ruthless, cutthroat, PARTISAN POLITICAL WARFARE, with no holds barred, no prisoners taken, and it must be waged with utter savagery because the stakes could not possibly be higher.

The stakes are the restoration of our American Republic, or to watch it descend into a socialistic/Communist cesspool from which we may never emerge.

That is what we are faced with.

Get Real! Cut the Third Party Crap: The Two Parties Are Not the Same

I'm all for Ralph Nader running again. I'd love for Howard Dean to get fed up or some other Democrat to get fed up with Obama and I'd love for a third party of Democrats and liberals to establish itself. I want all kinds of liberals to line and up run in third parties. That's how we weaken their side. As for our side, the focus must be to take back the Republican Party. That's the way you win. You can draw attention to yourself by denouncing both parties at the same time, and you can think that you're relating to a whole lot of people or being disabused and forgotten about, but you do a grave disservice in doing so because you're never going to win anything. You're going to guarantee Democrat victory in perpetuity. We need a strong conservative movement that takes back the Republican Party and then we have a strong Republican Party. It's hard work but it is happening.

That’s about right. They perverted the hell out of the “compassionate conservatism” idea by engaging in Democrat-style vote buying with spending bills.

The result? Loss of congressional majorities. Being Democrat Lite isn’t why they were put in but it was surely why they were booted out.

*** i know the Turks refused to allow our troops access from the north...but i did not know what Powell did to cause this.... can you tell me the specifics of what he said or did that caused this? ... thanks ***

Okay here's the basics, going from memory and a couple things out of order of how Colin Powell screwed the pooch with Turkey.

  1. First off, Colin Powell hated flying and did not like going to all the countries a SOS has to, to meet with other dignitaries. He wanted to do all his 'diplomacy work' by TELEPHONE! Some Secretary of State that makes. Especially after 9-11 and a WAR already going on in Afghanistan!

  2. Turkey had a newly elected Parliament, with a new Majority, and who were more 'Islamic' than the old 'secular' members and none of them ever met or knew Colin Powell. They wanted him to come to Turkey to meet and talk. Hating to fly, Powell REFUSED and wanted to do everything by TELEPHONE.

  3. This insulted the Turks and rightfully so (hell it would insult ME!). But Powell never got this through his thick skull -- and this is about where the 'billions in bribes' comes in. Powell starts offering money to allow our 4th ID to land and launch the attack from Turk soil.

  4. This continuing 'telephone diplomacy' and 'bribery' insults the Turks even more but fat ass still wont come to Turkey to meet with the new Turkish leaders of Parliament.

  5. Meanwhile the 4th ID is on a ship in the Mediterranean Sea floating in circles not knowing where the hell they'll be going, but counting on our wunerful SOS Colin Powell to straighten everything out. At the same time Gen Tommy Franks still has his original invasion plan 'on the table', as he's ALSO counting on Powell.

  6. Well... the rest is history. The Turks tell Powell to go to hades, take his billions and shove it, and the 4th ID now has to head to Kuwait. And Gen Tommy Franks now has to take his invasion plan, throw in in the dumper and have the 4th ID follow the 3rd ID into Iraq from the South.
So that's about it. And IMO Colon Bowell(sic) is prolly the WORST Secretary of State in US History. A Secretary of State who hates to fly, sheesh! It would have been 'mighty white of him' if he would have told Dubya about his little flying phobia when Dubya picked him, no?

Then again, Powell let Scooter Libby twist in the wind so he hasn't and morals or ethics anyway. Fricken mutt.

This was the sole argument to elect McCain too. I was a enthusiastic ditto head from 1992 to mid Bush. Rush was a 100% Bush supporter from 2000-2006(esp 2000-2004) , and on and off after that. Sounds like from this qoute that all those wonderful things Rush told us those years about Bush were about “WINNING 2004 election” (not reality). Winning? Bush campaigned for Spector in the 2004 primary against Tommey.

Republicans changing views on growing big government socialism:

1) Post Sept 11 : ‘We need it to protect us’.
2) During housing/debt/investment bubble growth “Dont worry, we can afford it , it's all about the GDP
3) During bubble burst(still Bush) :”We have to do it to save the economy
4) During Obama :” It will destroy this country

This is why Glenn Beck appeals to me more than Rush now.
