The Gold Standard For Hypocrisy On Coal

The Labor Party is the party of the left side of politics in Australia, similar in nearly every aspect to the U.S. Democrats. The Queensland State Labor Government has just made a $70 Billion deal for 6 new coal mines, the deal with the Mining magnate developer, the State, and China Power Inc. The deal will see 44 million tons of coal being shipped to China each year. This same State Labor Government agrees with the Federal Labor Government that CO2 emissions are the so called cause of Climate Change/Global Warming. At a Federal level, they propose to cut emissions by 5% on the 2000 level, and this amounts to around 20 million tons of CO2 each year. This new deal by the same Labor Party at a State level will see that coal being burned in 8 coal fired power plants, and producing 126 million tons of CO2, more than 6 times the proposed cut here at home. This is gross hypocrisy of the most breathtaking proportions.

I wish we had more such hypocrisy here in the US.
