I’ve said that with respect to federal office, even those coming in with high morals, ethics, and the like, tend to curdle after about 6 years. Being surrounded by the corruption, immorality, and all that power becomes difficult to resist getting assimilated into (and hence becoming a part of the problem).
I remember participating in an online Government Sim(-ulation) of the U.S. Senate earlier in the decade with people of both parties. You’d have the high-minded rhetoric publicly, but behind the scenes, I’d have Democrat members offering to sell me their vote (and members of my “leadership” giving me the OK to buy it). It was so degrading, it made your skin crawl. I felt like a pimp dealing with whores. Anybody that wants to stay longer than a 6-year stretch in DC is either a sinner, or a Saint. You can count the number of Saints on one hand.
I agree. But you don’t have to go to Washington to see it. One of our county commissioners had his district gerrymandered so a person who ran against him several times went into another district. It’s enough to gag a maggot.!
It’s all about protecting your power once in, the people be damned.
Just like the real Congress. And there were 53 Saints in Miami last night. :\
