Wow that is AWESOME! If I lost my excellent job, I’d be compelled to job-hunt in Texas because I want to be around the “don’t mess” people for once! I have family here, though, so it would be hard either way (staying in California or going & missing everyone).
Two words: wraparound sunglasses. :-) The ultimate beach accessory.
Texas is a Nanny State.
“Don’t mess with Texas”
That slogan originally was a roadway anti-liter campaign developed by the Texas Department of Highways in 1986. It has grown into other meanings over the last 24 years...
Well, Texans, my wife's job is moving to Houston. We are very Conservative, and very Christian. Sounds like we may be welcome in Texas. We went over to Houston on Sat. to look the area over and were pleased with western side of town, out around Katy. Can anyone give us further help on which counties have the lower property taxes and insurance in the Houston area. Seems that Houston encompases several counties. Anyone knowledgable on the area, please feel free to FReep mail me.
We are NOT libs. We are Catholic (coverted 5 years ago) conservatives. Wife is an outstanding graphic artist while I am a musician/songwriter doing Faith-based music & preforming, sharing testimony in any church that believes in Jesus Christ.
We have zero familial or personal ties to Upstate, SC. My family is in WV (it’s where I grew up but have zero desire to live there) & the wife grew up in Besthesda, Maryland & that’s not been home to her for over 30 years. I am 49 & my awesome wife is 51.
Old friend of mine from high school lives just north of San Antonio. Says the economy there has hardly burped despite Obama’s best efforts to the contrary. Were researching and job hunting via the net now, looking at a 2-3 year plan to get out of debt and build up a moving fund.
Cool yer jets pilot ! Just stay where you are .... BUT - BE PREPARED ! I live in Charlotte NC. ( talk about unruly urban trash ) but am prepared for the worst and hoping for the best. Have a great neighborhood watch set up now and will “get tougher” should something happen ( you don’t live here, you don’t enter , the ARMED street guardsmen told them as they put their vehicle in reverse ). ;o) Over 3/4 of the 40 home neighborhood has agreed to “stop-strips” , involvement in guardwatch , gardening , electrical power issues , etc. ! Get busy in S.C. brother. Don’t just let ‘em HAVE your freedom & STUFF by default. Make ‘em come get it !! You won’t see the same faces twice my lad - IF - you and the neighbors are in sync .
The gangbangers and unorganized will die off first . The folks left will be more like-minded as we put the pieces back together again. More than likely though, it won’t come to this .......
Snoot ;o)
Go Patriots! (New England)
I’m thinking about leaving this country until next presidental election date !
But it does seem Texas has more than tolerated the illegal immigrant crap. The states overrun with them now.
I've you've never lived in Texas, then how would you know about all this illegal immigrant crap? I've lived in Texas for 25 years, and I don't feel like the state is "overrun" with illegals.
Truthfully, I'm more comfortable with immigrants from south of the border than I am those damn liberal Yankees and West Coasters who bring their brand of socialism when they move here.
I came to Texas to get the hell away from socialism. IMHO, Texas is the last bastion of freedom in the US.
I’ll ping a few from the Houston area that may can give you some advice.
North up I45 around The Woodlands/Spring/Conroe areas maybe worth looking at. Also out US59 to the southwest may fit your needs.
I’d establish the job locations and then look for residential locations with good commutes to them. I don’t really think you want to be attempting commutes across Houston every day. Good luck.
If you hold conservative values of smaller government, no state income tax, and living good in God’s country, Texas is a good place to be. Just Don’t Mess With Texas, we like it just the way it is and we don’t intend to CHANGE it.
I was born raised and lived the majority of my life in the Beautiful Hill country up on the Edwards Plateau. Was fortunate to live smack dab between San Antonio and Austin, commuted to work in Austin 32 years, and stopped in Crumley’s grocery store in that God Bless Texas video many many mornings.
Austin is very liberal, but has good entertainment and all kinds of cuisine. San Antonio is one of the most fun towns on the planet especially at Fiesta Time. It has a very Hispanic flavor but full of really good people and of course the Alamo is our bastion and everybody there understands it.
We try to welcome strangers and not to be insular, but you must understand that we are a unique people who were formerly their own country and who will have no qualms about being our own country again. We can certainly do better than the trash in Washington DC.
We have kept our properties at decent values. You can get a nice log cabin on Canyon Lake for under $100,000, and for $250,000 a nice house with small acreage. Very unlike paying $450,000 for some old dump in the inner cities I’ve seen up north.
God blessed Texas with his own hand.
Also from Central Texas, it’s just a short run down to the beaches for fishing and recreation, but then you can come home and get the sand out of your crack and enjoy fairly temperate weather.
Rightly, meet Blue and vice versa. Rightly is looking around Katy. Blue lives there.
Since the building boom has slowed down it seems like there are fewer illegals. Most of the Mexicans that I know are very hard working family oriented people.
San Antonio is a great city; we live not too far away—just far enough to enjoy spending weekends there.
Well, we have our own power grid, except for far west Texas. Lots of open land and plenty of waterways for drinking water and fishing. The city of Austin is infested with liberals, but many illegals are heading home. This past weekend, I saw a roofing crew that was 100% rednecks.
Husbands must avert the gaze or the wife will not be found guilty for "gunning you down!"
True story. The wife and I were at Six Flags in Dallas and some very well endowed gal was going the other direction. She squeezed my hand and said, "Did you see the +i+s on that girl?" I had to admit I did see them and they were huge.
