After the election of Obama & seeing what (I believe) he is deliberately doing to the nation with the help of his cohorts, comrades & "man-puppies" in Congress...I'm starting to think in 4-5 years our nation is going to be in such distress, that we might want to move to Texas before the crap hits the fan.
We live in Upstate, SC which is a conservative area but if, (Heaven forbid!), CW2 or some variation of it comes down the line, I don't see this as a good part of the nation to be in economically or militarily.
Right now, I'm thinking Texas won't put up with or tolerate any federal takeovers from Washington DC or Obama. Am I misreading the Texas mantra of "Don't mess with Texas" or is this truly a part of the culture of the state among the majority of Texans?
Thanks for your time. Peace :)
Not a Texan. Never lived in Texas.
But it does seem Texas has more than tolerated the illegal immigrant crap. The state’s overrun with them now.
What makes you think this is any different?
When times are hard you want to be out of debt so far as possible, close to natural sources of employment for whatever it is that you know how to do. And you want to be close to family. Families sticking together is how people get through tough times.
Have some family in Texas and that is their personal attitude. I couldn’t tell you how wide spread that is. To be honest, there are other states to consider that have a majority of patriotic conservatives in the general population and state government. Of course, if you’re trying to go where the winters ain’t so harsh, then...
Wise words! Not just for Texans - all of mankind!
We lived in Austin (liberal utopia) for 8 years from 1992-2000 and loved it. Just like any state there are some areas that are more conservative than others. We’re in VA now and with McDonnell at the helm we’re feeling pretty good about it. If any state were to “succeed” it would be Texas however. (if any)
If you have any lib leanings, then no, please don’t mover here! And stop reading!
OK, you still reading? If you are conservative or a Christain conservative, then please move here. Yes, we have our illegals problems, but even most of them “get it” here.
Think I’m blowing smoke? Perry got nominated based on hinting that he’d tell DC to pound sand. Then look at what we just did with the education/book curriculum.
Texas still believes in American and Texan exceptionalism. While the former is taking some hits - we generally despise Washington - Texans still believe in exceptionalism.
Speaking as a life-long Texian.....we got a flood of refugees coming into our state already - too many liberal yankees.
However, if you hold true to your conservative principles, then we can accomodate you & you’re welcome to join us.
My wife and I visited the Austin area a few years back, sort of reconnoitering, trying to decide where we might want to live after retirement. If we chose Texas it will certainly be Austin ... great town in spite of the libs.
There are some great conservative areas around Austin like Round Rock, Georgetown, Dripping Springs. It’s mostly downtown that’s lib.
We lived in Texas back in 73 and 74. I have always liked the state but right now, I would much prefer upstate South Carolina. Your area is more conservative and that is what matters.
I live in the Florida Panhandle and it is probably the most conservative area in the nation. I am sure I have read that Florida’s First Congressional District is considered the most conservative.
We have more than our share of Yankees moving in but fortunately a lot of them are ex-military.
If I were you, I would stay where I was.
Its the Home of the Cowboys, Sandra Bullock and the biggest rattlesnake roundup, (outside of DC!)
The weather is good and the Babes are Hot!
Husbands must avert the gaze or the wife will not be found guilty for "gunning you down!"
If you aren’t liberal come on down. If you are liberal, move to California.
If you’re retired the caribbean is a pretty good place to relocate to........
Texans have a can do, will do, get out of my business attitude. The majority of folks that I talk to are sick to death of Bambi and company.
Another amazing state is Oklahoma. Extremely conservative. Men are MEN and women are ladies. A bunch of Okies that I spoke to last year said that if Texas left the Union, Oklahoma would come right with her; out loud, in the middle of the restaurant, and nearly 20 people agreed.
Very true. My brother and I were approached in Chattanooga by a couple of homeless teens from Myrtle Beach. They were starving. They received a 20 minute lecture to go home and given enough to get some food. People need to think their decisions through. A reason to go must be met with what your leaving.
Consider Oklahoma, reddest of the red states, if you are thinking of moving to the south central area of the country. We live in Norman, and I can’t tell there is a recession going on. And Norman is a great place to live. Quiet neighborhood, great neighbors, and a lake eleven miles away. The school system is very good, too, if you have children at home. When I have written the city through its website, I have always gotten a quick and polite response, too. Check out our housing prices and the unemployment rate in the urban areas. —I am not a realtor and have no reason other than enthusiasm to tell you Norman is a good place to live. We moved here upon retirement and have not regretted it a bit.
You have to pass the Texan Test first.
Thanks for the perspective. Actually, my wife is making noises like she’d like to move south to TX... She is really, really unhappy with the educational system here. My Company has openings I could slide into in the Dallas area. We have some friends that just relocated to San Antonio... I think we’d fit in, Christians active in our Church, very pro 2nd Amendment, conservative, live-and-let-live people...
