Krauthammer: Obamacare to Result in National Sales Tax on Americans; Public Option Already Here
Associated Content (AC) ^ | March 24, 2010 | Marc Schenker

Influential conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer is predicting that to pay for the unconstitutional mess known as Obamacare, Obama will have to push for a National Sales Tax within the coming year. In analysis delivered on the O'Reilly Factor, Krauthammer explained why he's certain that the Public Option—long denied by Obama and the Democrats as something we would see—is in fact here already, too, in the very bill Obama signed into law just yesterday. A sales tax is defined as a levy on the sale of goods and services, likely imposed at different levels of business activity; so it's really a value-added tax, which is especially vicious because its costs are passed on to the consumer as businesses raise prices. It also hits the poor harder because of its regressive tax nature. The National Sales Tax may be inevitable because of the hidden costs of Obamacare, which are a lot more extreme than what Democrats will let on.

The “poor” will be exempt because they don’t make enough money. How will they prove that? With their national I.D. card Lindsey Graham is pushing.

If you are serious about thses issues and the A-Hole in the White House is Lying then SAY IT dammit or Shut the Hell up

The only question the Republicans have to ask EVERY TIME the Democrats now ask for ANY TAX INCREASE is Why do we have to increase taxes since the President PROMISED us the Health Care bill is going to LOWER the deficit ,He said The CBO SAID SO. Was The President Lying?
Oh by the way we told you so

Can anyone confirm there’s a 4% home sales tax included in the bill? I’ve heard different sources discussing it.

Does anybody think O-Hole is going to stay here in the US the day after he leaves office? He's on a plane to somewhere, Paris? Indonesia? Who knows. He will have done his job to destroy America, and will spend his money somewhere else.

You know, all this talk about adding this or that to Obamacare presumes that the Dems will still have a majority after November, cause I really don’t see any big tax increases or the addition of the public option before then.

I’d say the chances the Dems retain the majority in the House this November is about 20% at best. After they lose it, the Repubs better have the guts to refuse to fund any part of this with tax or spending increases. We need to starve this beast and let it wither on the vine.

As Krauthammer said the Public option is already here, the Government is calling all the shots ,they set the prices Insurance companies will charge, what benefits they can offer and to who they can offer it too, thats why all the converts, the Insurance companies are the New Utilities, collection agencies for what the Government is dictating to them and Us.
As for the Republicans they are the only choice and I have yet to see any courage displayed ,I will Change my mind when I hear 1 of them call this Marxist in the White House a Liar for telling the American People this Bill will lower the Deficit, not until then

A VAT or National Sales tax will not be passed by a Republican controlled House and Senate. Let’s put aside our differences within the GOP long enough to make sure that happens.

The writer does a grave disservice by repeatedly conflating a national sales tax and a VAT, or Value-Added Tax.

He obviously knows little about his subject.

I would think that the poor will still pay a VAT, but some/all of it would be returned to them in the form of an income tax refund. Still paying it through the year, however.

“The writer does a grave disservice by repeatedly conflating a national sales tax and a VAT, or Value-Added Tax.”

What’s the difference? NST is visible, VAT is invisible, but both tax consumption. Politically, it’s safer to have an NST, since every increase will be more transparent to voters and hence more likely to be opposed. Any “prebate” provided to low income households to offset the burden of an NST can as easily be adopted under a VAT as well. So in terms of who pays what, a 5% NST is indistinguishable from a 5% VAT.

Hidden taxes are intrinsically bad. That’s the difference. A very important difference.

Europe already has a national sales tax. That's why just about everything there is at least 20% more expensive than it is here.

Very well written Marc, too bad it’s all bad news. This is a reason to redouble the effort to remove anybody from congress who’ll be voting to retain Pelosi as the Speaker.
