MATTERA ON IMUS: YOUNG PEOPLE THOUGHT THEY WERE VOTING FOR 'FRESH PRINCE OF BEL AIR' (PART 1)
Imus in the morning ^ | 4/2/10 | Jason Mattera

Must-see video of exchange between Don Imus and Jason Mattera, author of NYT Bestseller "Obama Zombies". The best entertainment you could find--for free. "People of my generation are a bunch of young idiots...18 year-olds 65 years ago were facing down Nazis...18 year-olds today--their hardship is "my internet is slow". That's why I wrote Obama Zombies--to pimp slap them back to reality". Get his book on Amazon--best read in a long time.

I have read about 30% so far. Quite telling.

Obama’s team was first rate. They exploited the mood and the ignorance of the young people and used modern day marketing to get the job done. McCain’s people were sadly over matched.

Over-matched, but sad? I am hard-pressed to imagine any part of our current malaise that would not have been replicated by McCain.

Indeed at least this way we have outrage against libs.

Agree 100% but I will still never forgive all the idiots I know who voted for “hope & change” without taking ANY time to read deeper and find out what it actually meant. The stories were EVERYWHERE except MSM.

Thanks morons, thanks a lot.

Yeah, because there are no 18 year olds facing down suicide bombers in Iraq, or Afghanistan. We're not at war or anything.

That's a pretty large brush you paint with......

That is 3% of the population. America has never been at war. The Marines/Army has been at war. America has been at the mall.

Especially McCain himself. Worst campaign, ever.

Yes, but the point was in direct reference to WWII. Granted, there is not a draft right now, but the miliary has been recruiing at 100%+ since the war began.

My point was that its not ALL of the 18 yr olds. Just as there were 18 yr olds fighting Nazis and Japs, there are 18 yr olds fighting America's wars today.

My younger brother is in the Marines (just like his older brother) and preparing to deploy.

I wouldn't say that America has been at the mall. I will however say that a good portion are leftists. Another portion have been lied to and just want the troops to be safe without actually understanding the war(s). The rest (and this is a good number) are Patriots that believe in the cause or have a dog in the fight.

It took about a 2hr long discussion with members of my own family over "Mission Accomplished" and the diference between war WITH Iraq and war IN Iraq. They most certainly cared about us and showed support to us. Although, they didn't understand why we were still there if the "mission was accomplished." And this was after I did 4 tours.

They understand now. But look at what we're dealing with. Everything is sound bites. We had libs, dems, repubs, conservatives et al sign on to the war in Iraq. And then it seemed within 24 hrs the leftists dusted off their 60's textbooks and started bashing the war and the war effort.

Now, I don't buy into the support the troops but not the war garbage. But, I will say that many Americans are confused over what is actually going on. They don't realize that we are making small victories (I would say the Iraq campaign is a solid victory) and think we just ride around and get blown up all day. And that's because this is all the leftstream media reports. Nobody can support just sending troops out to get blown up and nothing else.

Also, you don't see a lot of the pro-war rallies. FR is one of the few places that show the Freedom Guards and other groups/charities working to support the war effort. There isn't a big media push behind it, and there isn't a big government push behind it. This is crucial. Because its like "we're only there because we have to... its Bush's fault and nothing we believe in.

But, behind the scenes in small town America you have all kinds of support. A guy I went to high school lost both of his legs. Our small town got together and held a benefit through the Moose Lodge; sold admission tickets on Ebay and raised over $100k for him; pretty good for a small town where the biggest jobs in town is working at the prison. To give you a hint of small town... there were less than 100 in my graduating class.

My last tour, the care packages sent by the town? One shipment filled a 7 ton truck; no kidding. It was almost embarassing the amount of mail I received. There was enough hygine equipment to supply a battalion. They also sent coloring books, crayons, pens, paper, candy teddy bears etc for the Iraqi children. There are more letters sent to troops by school children it is heartbreaking because there isn't enough troops or time to write them all back.

I can tell you that you can go to Landstuhl (sp?) where the wounded go on their way back to the US and there is a huge room just full of "stuff." Blankets, clothes, shoes, batteries, cd players, cds, pens, paper, envelopes, duffel bags, handheld games, phone cards, phone cars, and yes more phone cards. This isn't even counting the other room within the hospital building with board games, model cars, puzzels, journals, scrap books, phone cards, phone cards, and more phone cards. You can't make it through the hospital as an ambulatory patient without being loaded up and given millins of phone cars. Its much appreciated, but if you ever wanted to see support... look into what wounded warriors receive for support. Neighborhoods get together and send stuff in bulk. If you're a wounded guy all you have to do is write a thank you note to the sender and you can have whatever you want.

Trust me, I went through the phase of thinking America was at the mall; then I found myself in the hospital at Landstuhl. Don't believe the "unpopular war" mantra from CNN and Whorealdo.

If President Bush had put America on a full war footing 9/12/01, I wonder how different things might have been.

My deepest thanks to you and your brother for your service...

...but I think it's fair for Americans who are basically in favor of our war effort to ask,

"Why have we been at war in Afghanistan for twice as long as it took us to defeat the Japanese Empire?"

"When will there be some undisputable signs of victory in the 'war on terror', clearly visible to the American people"??

Atomic Bombs.

"When will there be some undisputable signs of victory in the 'war on terror', clearly visible to the American people"??

#1 8 years without an attack (Zero ruined the streak).

#2 Free elections in Iraq with less corruption than US elections.

#3 Pakistan's new vigor in fighting terrorists.

To name a few.

Ok, I sniped you with my Atomic Bomb answer.

The Japanese were willing to die for their cause and the kamikazes demonstrated that.

The jihadis WANT to die for their cause. Big diference.

We're at war. If I kill you, I win. If you kill me, I win. If you kill me, more want to be like me and I still win. The only 100% garauntee that they will reach "paradise" is martyrdom. You can be the best muslim and still not be garaunteed a place in pardise because allah has already determined it. But if you are a martyr....

So, it's not that you are trying to conquer a people, but rather an idea and that's the sticker. An insurgency is only popular until they lose favor with the people.

This is kind of a weak analogy, but how many people still support the idea of The Confederate States of America? The people were technically conquered; the land was conquered. But the idea wasn't. Heck, even the TX gov was saying he would sign a secession bill if it passed the legislature. He wouldn't have said it if there wasn't at least soe support for it.

That said, the killing and the dying has been mostly "over there" rather than "over here" since 9/11 I would say that's at least a small victory.... people that volunteer to fight (the troops) are fighting, vice the public at large.
