How do I feel? Click the Murtha tab to find out - but until then, our friend Phil can pass the good news.
The Navys 10th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock will be named for Rep. John Murtha, the long-serving Pennsylvania Democrat who chaired the powerful House appropriations defense subcommittee before he died in February.I won't speak more of the dead - but I can't think of any OIF veteran who would like to sail her - and I think the CNO should read the newspaper more - maybe vets from OIF should mail him clippings of this.
According to a Navy memorandum obtained by Navy Times, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus notified Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead that he had selected John P. Murtha for the previously unnamed LPD 26. Its the latest example of the Navy breaking a convention for naming its warships; the previous ships in the San Antonio class have been named for American cities.

Does it have a single blade prop? If so, it is a fitting tribute, to an all show - no go.
“What a disgrace. No one who falsely accused our troops of war crimes should have such an honor.”
Needs repeating.
If I was in the navy, just like the USS Jimmy Carter, this is another ship I would not want to serve on !
a slap in the face, Devil Dogs.
Sick to my stomach!
Better question is, “Does it automatically stab its MEU in the back when they board the ship, while sending the plans to the enemy.?”
We can but hope that word will get out among the swabs that it is a “Devil Jonah” Ship. A cursed ship that will damn its crew. They won’t even want to be in the same harbor with it.
How about the USS Barack Hussein Obama?
USS Nancy Pelosi, USS Hilary Clinton...
Just damn!
Sell it to Lithuania and rename it.
Ugh...my HEAD...make it STOP, make it STOP, PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!
>>> the USS Jimmy Carter, this is another ship I would not want to serve on !
In fairness the Navy made the best of a bad situation there. Having a full sized nuclear carrier named for a former president has become one of the retirement perks of the job. You can bet the next carrier after the Ford will be the Clinton.
The Navy pulled a slick end-run around this situation by using Carter’s submarine service as an excuse to avoid fifty years of the CVN Jimmy Carter. A submarine has half the lifespan, and by definition will spend most of it’s active service out of sight and unmentioned.
Disgusting.
Oh, yikes! What about the current Oval Office Resident?
Lists hard to port. Rudder is stuck and it sails in meandering counter-clockwise circles. Ammo bunkers are filled with cotton candy and Skittles. All weapons systems rendered inoperable. All comm systems play unending monotonous 0bama speeches.
