Palin’s choice, she can stay on the sidelines making millions a year or she can groom her career to run for President.

IMO, she is going for the sidelines.

Here they go again, the lame stream media trying to pick the GOP candidate, by defining the field for lame brains to pick from.

Time to think for ourselves.

Most of the polls at this stage match her against Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee. Many of them, including the Democrat poll, PPP, include Romney and Huckabee and fairly consistently place Romney in the lead in a three way race.

This tells you more about the polls and pollsters than it does about reality.

Here is a dose of reality. Romney will never be president, and neither will Huckabee. If either one ever was, they'd enact half of Obama's agenda and call it conservatism, but we're safe, because neither one will ever be president.

Now lets take it one step further while we're at it. If the GOP were to nominate another McCain in the person of Huck or Romney, it would fracture the GOP perhaps for good. The Left wants this, of course, and Romney is so convinced that its his turn that he won't see it coming and won't care anyway.

Agree, cash is not all.

remember John Connally, 1980 GOP candidate
what was it? $12 million for a single delegate?

SP should get the nomination easily against the expected field if she wants it and of course works hard and debates well.

I was polled friday night, well sort of....

The computer gave me about 7 republican choices and obama to pick from, Palin was NOT mentioned, so I answered "I prefer another person".

The computer thanked me and hung up.

I don't know who the polling service was but it was apparent they have decided who they want and it was not Palin.

Party Primaries are about intensity and organization.

Sarah Palin has intensity from her supporters in bucket loads. What she needs is organization. So far, she hasn't really made any attempt to set up any organisation at the states leevl, that is capable of running a preesindential run.
Romney and Pawlenty are very much ahead of her in that department. Romney is nothing if efficient. If Sarah Palin really wants to run, she is going to have to start getting her own organization up going by the start of 2011.

Money, while not totally unimportant, is much less so”

I think Sarah Palin is going to raise a lot of money if she decides to run. No one gets the crowds fired up like she does.

Great post and thanks for the ping.

While I'm still not sure of just how indicative her facebook numbers are as a measure of the intensity of her support, I agree with you on the crowds she's drawing in a political off year. They really are amazing.

I'm also encouraged by what looks like a drop in the intensity of her unfavorability numbers. I'm no fan of PPP because of their demonstrated manipulation (to me, at least) of their sample methods to achieve a certain result. Their recent poll this past week, however, had an interesting observation:

For instance among voters who disapprove of Obama but also have an unfavorable opinion of Sarah Palin, she leads him by 22 points in a head to head contest. That wasn't necessarily the case in previous months.
As for what this means in a primary battle, it could mean that Republicans and potential Republican voters who have had questions about her are already beginning to take another look. We shall see.

I will probably get hammered very hard for this on this board, but here is my thoughts on Palin: she is very popular with activists like us, but the other candidates have activists who support them too. Huckabee has a strong following amongst evangelical voters, Paul has a strong libertarian/kook following and Romney .... well, he has to pay for most of his support. Palin has more of this type of support, but it is not as organized right now.

However, to the generic Republican voter who is not engaged right now, she is not a serious presidential contender. This makes up probably about 30 to 40% of those who cast votes in caucuses and primaries. Their view of her is that she is somewhat inarticulate and “blonde” - based on the SNL characterizations and the now famous interview with Katie Couric. This is a huge obstacle to her getting the nomination and defeating Obama in 2012.

"I suggest that there is empirical data available at this point that strongly suggests that Palin could not be defeated either by Romney or Huckabee or anyone else in the prospective filed."

After the 2010 elections the field will fill out. I am not very enthusiastic about the current "prospective field".

You missed the biggest factor!

Her effect on the TV ratings of each and every program on which she appears. She has quadrupled the audience for some of them. - Romney has no measurable effect on audience.

Sarah will dominate all primaries easily, because her base shows up.
