Why Wasn't Democrat Rep. Massa Covered More By the Media?

A married man and congressional candidate begins harassing male campaign workers, especially gay campaign staff. Upon being elected, this Congressman distinguishes himself primarily for his drinking problem, beginning each day by adding liquor to his morning coffee. I think they call it "Kennedy's Koffee" down at Starbucks.

His party's leadership is told some of the details by the Congressman's Chief of Staff, but the leadership does nothing. The Congressman pays his Chief of Staff $40,000 in campaign money, presumably to keep quiet about the remaining details. After announcing that he will not support the President's efforts to socialize medicine, the news comes out that the Congressman made numerous homosexual passes to staff members and even a bartender working at a Marine's funeral back in the district.

Is any of this newsworthy? Not if the Congressman is a Democrat. Newsweek's Eleanor Clift's take is that this an example of a pattern of bi-partisan inaction toward bad Congressman, and an example of each Congressman being a king within his fiefdom.

John Murtha, who recently passed away, was a crook who was caught on tape within an inch of taking a bribe from undercover FBI agents. Barney Frank allowed his boyfriend to run a brothel out of his basement. Now THAT is a supportive boyfriend. All of these Democrats are either still in office or, in Murtha's case, served decades before passing away.

Massa resigned, but...
