Massachusetts law would turn doctors into serfs
Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights ^ | 4-27-10 | Don Watkins

Throughout the health care debate, we have been arguing that the push for government control of health care is driven by a certain moral view: the view that need is a claim. That view is typically taken to be noble and benevolent, and one of Ayn Rand’s most controversial conclusions is that it is in fact vicious and unjust. Well, the latest proposal out of Massachusetts seems designed to prove Rand’s point.

We need to show this to everyone who claims Obamacare won't make slaves of doctors.

It would be interesting to see if any doctors sue under anti-slavery laws.

Who didn't see this coming.

The only way health care can be a "right" is if health care providers have no rights.

They should leave the state and/or retire.

Wasn’t slavery one of the causes of that little squabble back in the 1860’s? Mayhaps we are due for another.

“The only way health care can be a “right” is if health care providers have no rights. “

Exactly, and this is true of all instances in which the government defines prices.

I made a decision to delay gratification and forego an income for a long time during my youth to get through college, medical school, residency, fellowship etc., to finally get to the point at which I could treat patients. I paid a lot of money to go to medical school, and did a lot of construction jobs etc., and a lot of moonlighting to finance my education. What gives the government the right to take from me as they see fit?

This is no different than decreeing that all attorneys have to accept public defender rates. I wonder how well that would fly.

According to the Fugitive Doctor Act it is illegal to give aid to an escaped physician. (well, not quite yet, but soon)

Anybody with a positive net-worth, be it $2.00 or $2,000,000.00 is "rich" and got that way by stealing from the "poor."

A "poor" person is anyone who spends more than they take in, regardless of their gross income.

Well, the silver lining is a lot of other states will soon be getting an influx of doctors from the exodus leaving Massacraphole.

It’s only a matter of time until Congress tries to impose the same rule nationally.

What young kid in high school is going to want to spend 6 - 8 or more years in college to be a doctor? Or a nurse?

When we have become a totaly socialist union and everyone is paid the same, who is going to have any incentive to do anything?

I remember a Russian I met in the 80’s. He told me about some of the most fertil soil in the world in Russian Georgia, but the plows were all broken, couldn’t get parts for weeks or months and no one cared anyway. So the produce rotted in the fields.

That’s what socialism is about.

Every health care provider licensed in the commonwealth which provides covered services to a person covered under “Affordable Health Plans” must provide such service to any such person, as a condition of their licensure, and must accept payment at the lowest of the statutory reimbursement rate…

And what will they do when doctors relocate out of state? Send goons to drag them back?

So is this actual state law, or merely proposed?

I can't imagine that a law like this wouldn't drive most physicians out of the state. All they would have to do is set up shop across the state line somewhere if they wanted to remain in the area. If MA thinks they have a doc shortage now, just wait until they pass this law!
