Wisconsin Democrats are suffering a crisis of faith this summer. No, they haven’t suddenly learned how the economy works… or why criminals keep committing crimes after you’ve been nice enough to set them free again and again… or why when you over-tax and over-regulate employers out of existence, they cease to be around to employ people.

No, this is something much less abstract, both more concrete and very close to home: Wisconsin Democrats are trying to figure out why the inexperienced, superficial, radical environmentalist president they worked so hard to elect is now commanding an administration whose main commitment is to kill the jobs they so desperately need in Wisconsin.

The newspapers are ill-equipped to handle the Bucyrus story, because it cannot be covered without both an understanding of world economics and an acknowledgement of the simple truth that this administration would rather see the unionized laborers of Wisconsin be unemployed than have them work on any project that the high priest of the Church of Global Warming, a.k.a. the Crazed Sex Poodle, has proclaimed to be a sin against Mother Earth.

The nuts and bolts of the story are as follows: One of the biggest, most successful energy companies on earth, Reliance Industries of India, is working on a great big new coal mine in India, and they need some $600 million worth of mining equipment. Reliance intended to give the contract to Wisconsin’s own Bucyrus International, world-famous for such equipment since their contributions to the Panama Canal project a century ago.
