Spring light in a hazy May and a man with a gun at the door Someone's crawling on the roof above --- all the media here for the show I've been waiting for our friends to come Like spiders down ropes to free-fall A thirty round clip for a visiting card --- admit one to the embassy ball
Caught in the crossfire on Princes Gate Avenue In go the windows and out go the lights Call me a doctor. Fetch me a policeman I'm down on the floor in one hell of a fight
I'm just a soul with an innocent face --- a regular boy dressed in blue conducting myself in a proper way as befitting the job that I do They came down on me like a ton of bricks Swept off my feet, knocked about There's nothing for it but to sit and wait for the hard men to get me out
Calm reason floats from the street below and the slow fuse burns through the night Everyone's tried to talk it through but they can't seem to get the deal right Somewhere there are Brownings in a two-hand hold --- cocked and locked, one up the spout There's nothing for it but to sit and wait for the hard men to get me out
When you are in trouble, you don't want games, you want results. You look for "the hard men to get me out."
Alrighty, then.
Aqualung is still better.
In memory of the hard men, and their hard K-9 heroes. :)
Thick as a Brick.
That’s a good song. I like anything from “Songs From The Wood” and “Skating Away”..

I’ve only heard the edited version. It’s pretty good.
I liked him during his woodsy period, too. (c. 1975-77.) He weirds me out these days. Dark!
Jethro Tull ...one of the best live shows I ever saw...and I’m not a huge fan.

Princes Gate was the scene of the famous SAS assault on the Iranian embassy.

Agree. Wife and I were watching a recorded concert when Anderson started playing the flute between the legs on the guitar player. We quickly switched to NCIS reruns. Never again.
No argument here. Ian Anderson has definitely had his weird, self-indulgent moments. I remember one concert at the Oakland Coliseum during the Thick as a Brick tour where the whole show sorta broke down into some bizarre pantomime with men in rabbit suits and other characters. Not why we were there.
But in the last few years, I've seen either Anderson or Tull live four or five times, and my appreciation of Anderson's consumate musicianship and brilliance only gets stronger. Whether it's his delicate acoustic guitar playing or accompanying a full orchestra, Anderson has rarely failed to amaze me with his skill and musical virtuosity that spans an eclectic mix of styles.
There is no other "rock" musician or group that I have more respect for. Or has sustained my musical cravings for the last 40+ years! Time flys when you're having fun!
heh - thanks!
Crossfire
by Tommy Shannon/Chris Layton/Reese Wynans/B. Carter/Ruth Ellsworth
recording of 1989 from In Step (Epic EK-45024), Stevie Ray Vaughn
Day by day night after night,
blinded by the neon lights
Hurry here hustlin’ there,
no one’s got the time to spare
Money’s tight nothin’ free,
won’t somebody come and rescue me
I am stranded, caught in the crossfire
Stranded, caught in the crossfire
Tooth for tooth eye for an eye,
sell your soul just to buy buy buy
Beggin’ a dollar stealin’ a dime,
come on can’t you see that I
I am stranded, caught in the crossfire
I am stranded, caught in the crossfire
I need some kind of kindness,
some kind of sympathy oh no
We’re stranded, caught in the crossfire
Save the strong lose the weak,
never turning the other cheek
Trust nobody don’t be no fool,
whatever happened to the golden rule
We got stranded, caught in the crossfire
We got stranded, caught in the crossfire
We got stranded, caught in the crossfire
Stranded, caught in the crossfire
Help me
A genius? Yes. Twisted? Yes. How much twisted can I take in my geniuses? Unfortunately, not much these days.

~Did you ever the the feeling that the story’s too damn real and in the present ..tense.
Or that everybody’s on the stage and it seems that you’re the only person sitting in the audience.~
