Victor Davis Hanson: ‘Bush … Come Back, Bush, Come Back’
Pajamas Media ^ | 9/4/2010- | Victor Davis Hanson

Why We Suddenly Miss Bush

Various polls report that George W. Bush in some states is now better liked than President Obama. Even some liberal pundits call for Bush, the now long-missed moderate, to draw on his recognized tolerance and weigh in on the Ground Zero mosque or the Arizona anti-immigration legislation. Apparently the erstwhile divider is now the healer that the healer Obama is not.

As President Obama’s polls dip, as Congress is widely disdained, and as the economy slumps, suddenly George Bush is missed. Why so? Let me list ten likely reasons.

The very last thing I want is a return of any ‘open borders Bush’.

I think we should go back to the e en more open borders and Amnesty of Ronald Reagan.

Now that’s authentic conservatism.

Immigration from Mexico only decreased by 66% under w.

It’s good we have folks on these threads who know better.

Okay here is a list of republican presidents

Hoover
Eisenhower
Nixon
Reagan
Bush 1
Bush 2

I really think a case can be made that bush 2 was most consrvative

There is nothing conservative about open borders.

Compare the comment section in the posted article to the comments here in FR on this thread. I wonder why the big disparity. We don’t have Betty, it’s true, but still, you’d think more people would be interested in commenting here.

Yes.

I agree.

GWB reduced immigration from Mexico by 66% whereas Reagan had open borders and signed into law Amnesty for illegal immigrant.

I would be thrilled if some political group adopted a litmus test that unless a candidate admitted that Bush was a good president and conservative that they would not get an endorsement.

I was always angry with how the Left lied about Bush but I have a special wrath for faux conservatives that bash probably one of history’s greatest Presidents. I like Reagan but I have decided that until I start seeing more intellectual honesty about Bush that I am going to take Reagan rhetorical hostage. The Hanson post was awesome with a big fat W.

Faux Conservatives get Reagan back when they start being honest about W.

Until then, enjoy your President Obama— Obama bashed W.

Bush bashing by conservatives is ridiculous.

Ron Paul and the various libertarians stripes are not where we need to be going.

I have always thought that Bush deserved more credit for earning his fighter pilots wings. Obama could never learn to fly a jet. I don't think he could drive a car

Me too. Now, they have moved on to Palin....I hope it is their downfall (especially here on FR).

The truth always reveals itself...the truth of GWB is no different.

The very last thing I want is a return of any ‘open borders Bush’.

You would prefer to retain 'Open Borders with Executive Amnesty Obama'?

Or was John Effin' Kerry your guy? Algore?

Come now. Don't do a spiteful swan dive off the ledge of sanity into the pool of illogic...

The comments are HYSTERICAL.

Seriously though, if in the s*** I had a man like Bush to work with and one like Obama to work with, hands down 100% It would be Bush I would be following. Obama can carry the ammo, if he can manage to figure out how to pick it up with out breaking a nail. Otherwise, he can GTFO of my bunker and run off with his white flag and bowing a** in his hands. I can’t STAND weenie men.

I agree with you. Palin is being given the same treatment.

I really think there is a deep sense of insecurity that prompts some advocates to demand a standard of politics that they know does not exist and therefore they will not have to practically defend. They will simply idealize in a way that suggest they are a ‘true believer’

Bush and Palin are both light years ahead of folks like Romney, McCain, and even Gingrich.

You're right. The commentary following that article is Freep-worthy, to say the least. Some very eloquent, and well-informed thinkers there.
