The L.A. Unified School District Teachers Union made good on their promise to protest the Los Angeles Times over the papers release of evaluations of over 6,000 teachers in the district.

The controversy surrounding the LA Times decision to publish an online database of teachers effectiveness isnt going away any time soon. Yesterday, hundreds of teachers from the LA Unified School District gathered outside the Times downtown headquarters in protest.
I feel, in a way, betrayed, Lee Bartoletti of Ivanhoe Elementary School in Silver Lake told a Times reporter. The Times has reneged on its mission of telling the truth.
The protest was organized by the union United Teachers Los Angeles, which has also called for a boycott of the paper. The UTLA website didnt have much to say on the matter, posting only a sentence or two about the protest.

The union tried using the protest as a way to spin their story that the Times release of the teacher evaluation data was the equivalent of leaking classified government documents.
What they are really mad about is that the scoring of the teachers shows that there are below grade teachers in the system and that children arent always getting the best education possible.
The unions are in the business of protecting their members at any cost and the thought of actually holding teachers accountable for student performance is an anathema to them
Kudos to the Times for standing up to the union and giving the children in Los Angeles a chance at a better education. Don Irvine is the chairman of both Accuracy in Media, where this column originally appeared as a blog, and Accuracy in Academia.

Poor babies. I guess their feelings got hurt. What a bunch of whiny wusses and spoiled brats.
Lefties eating lefties
Now if they were our battle plans for Afghanistan the Union would throw a party for the LA Times.

Well golly gee whiz! That couldn’t possibly be true! Could it? /sarc!
Our public school system is a complete and utter failure, an unmitigated disaster and yet the government throws more money at it instead of fixing the problems starting with disbanding the teachers unions and getting more accountability and responsibility from not only the teachers but the school administrators. Hold all those bastards accountable first, get rid of the ineffective and lousy teachers and that is a start. Also start teaching the basics and the fundamentals, reading, writing and arithmatic. Do not allow any parent to enrol a student in kindergarten before the age of five or six. Fail students or hold them back from graduating who fail to meet even the minimum standards of learning and ability and above all stop being politically correct!

Boy, are the LAT mad (sarc/)
Oh well, these crybaby teachers can no longer hide in the system.
Unions have always protected the incompetent, the lazy, and the under-performers. It’s time for the taxpayers to see exactly what their tax dollars are paying for. Kudos to the LA Times.
AMEN! I think ALL public service employee unions ought to be illegal. Trash men, public transit workers, government service workers, police and firemen, and especially teachers.
Average LA county teacher pay is $58,000. Full benefits. Summers off.
Then what in these evaluations is factually incorrect or presented grossly out of context? Anything? Anything? Bueller?
Don't forget all their holidays, too, plus spring break and winter break. And you ought to hear them whine! "Oh, it's already time to go back to work! The summer went by soooooo fast! I need more time off! It's not fair! We teachers are so underpaid! We're not appreciated! Why should movie stars get millions of dollars while we teachers are underpaid? It should be the other way around," etc. Teachers are used to being patted on the back and told how underpaid they are, and it's gone to their heads.
I've also gotten emails from teachers where the spelling, punctuation and grammar are so hideous you wouldn't believe it.
I'm sure it can be tough, working on an LA Unified campus, where you probably have to fear for your life sometimes. I do feel sorry for the good teachers. But I've known so many whiners, my sympathy is truly limited! Especially since they have the nerve to whine in front of workers who don't earn half what they do, and who have to work 50 weeks a year for only two weeks off!
Parasites protesting prostitutes. Street theater at its most ironic.
