Police shut down someone ONLY because they don't have a permit. Even the "live free or die" state is a nanny one.

Time to shut down the Keene Police Department for a year. Maybe then the cops will get the hint.

I’d be hard pressed to contain myself if that happened in my town.

Back in my day, we had a word for that. The first two syllables were chicken.

Damn Cub Scout subversives. They’re probably taking up space that could have been used by the Muslim GLBT Association.

So how many Cub Scouts did the Keene cops taser? Never know if one of the kids carried a weapon! < / sarc off>

Another example of the 99.999% making the remaining .001% look bad...
This is clearly a case of the police enforcing the small laws so these obvious scofflaws don't turn into murders, rapists and robbers.
Once a Cub Scout gets the idea that he can sell cookies and brownies without a permit, there's no telling what crimes they will commit next.
Just ask the Girl Scouts...

If the Mayor doesn’t fire the Chief of Police then “The People” should fire the Mayor.

Maybe the citizens of Keene should fire the city council and the mayor who made the city ordinances.

Way to go, cops. Were you all in RIOT gear to face those dangerous Cub Scouts?? Hell of a lot easier than taking on REAL criminals, ain’t it!!!

Another example of the 99.999% making the remaining .001% look bad.. My father was a LEO for 35 years. He served with honor and distinction. There was a time many years ago when I would have taken violent exception to your remarks.
Now, all I can say is stupid PIGS!

We had a similar occurance here involving a sign that was placed on a public street corner for a Christian non-profit fundraiser event.
The rules are the rules, of course. But the reason why people are getting angry is not that it was enforced, it was HOW it was enforced.
The town is at fault for not having a fast, easy way to apply and pay for permits on-site, nor allow issuance of a warning/citation that can be easily cleared up the following week through payment and back-dated permits. All this behavior does is anger the locals and irritate the merchants.

According to Mastrogiovanni, who owns the Corner News, the scouts were selling on her private property next to her store. Permits are required only on city-owned land.

OK, my first response was going to be that the Cub Scout leader should have understood the law and shown the boys the way to follow the law, but it sounds like she did.
I was a Scout leader (both Cub and Boy Scout level) for years with my boys, and we always made sure we followed the laws and ordanances where we were doing any activity.
Ms. Mastrogiovanni should appeal if there is an avenue to show the boys the correct way to resolve a conflict like this.
There is a saying in BSA leader training: "camping is the carrot". Scouting is really about teaching life skills. The fun stuff is the distraction that makes them want to do it.
