An Opinion:Respectful Disagreement

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. -The First Constitutional Amendment The first amendment added to the United States’ Constitution, before anything else, declared freedom of speech and religion for every man, woman and child in this country. This fact automatically makes America the most tolerant nation in the world today. No one doubts the past decade has tested the spirit of the American people. We are faced with fears of terrorism on our soil, loved ones serving overseas, and crushing debt that could forever alter the United States’ position as a world power. Needless to say, nerves are raw and emotions are running high. However, the American people cannot simply throw their hands in the air and give up on trying to find common ground. Over the past few weeks there have been deplorable displays of hypocritical intolerance in our country. Shouting matches and name-calling have become the sorry language of debate. This is simply unacceptable. I’m sure you’ve heard by now that an Islamic Mosque is set to be built near Ground Zero. On one side of the issue, we argue freedom of religion and the necessity for acceptance of Muslims in America. On the other side, the memory of September 11th remains fresh in our minds as a day when innocent lives were brutally wiped out in the name of Islam. As polarizing an issue as this is, it is also an opportunity. Have a conversation with someone who disagrees with you. Key word there—conversation. That means no screaming, no name-calling, no walking off your own set.

Hi Freepers, Here's another article that my daughter has published for Fox News Channel University. I hope you all enjoy it. I love it when young conservatives speak out. It gives me great hope.

We respect all religions in this country. We don’t respect cults. End of discussion.

You got it. Islam is a death cult.

As soon as I hit the word “tolerance” I had to stop. Tolerance is bullsh**. I don’t tolerate evil.

I say this again and will keep saying it. The estimate of 8% of muslims are radicals turns out to be a big number. With 1 Billion muslims in the world, that means 80 million are radicals. Can you handle 80 million radicals and how do you tell the difference and more importantly, do we have the time or the inclination? In everyones life, there comes a time to make major decisions. How we approach this problem leaves no room for error. Make the wrong decision concerning these people could mean our destruction. Is it worth it?

The next question, concerning the 8%, is how many are in our country. We see the take over in other countries, like England and we see what’s happening to them. Do we just ignore it as though it won’t effect us? I don’t think so.

Well said.

As I define religion, it excludes any philosophy that demands my death or subservience.

I am okay with living with erring on the side of protecting my countrymen.

I am real tired of being told I am Islamophobic by people who are only saying that because they are afraid Muslims will kill them if they don't ostracize me.
