Time Editor Smacks Down Bill Maher’s Ridiculous Read on the Election
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | November 10, 2010 | Walter Hudson

Bill Maher was befuddled by last week’s election as he discussed the results with his Real Time panel, which included Time magazine editor-at-large Fareed Zakaria. Maher could not understand why voters would cast their ballots for Republicans.

The leftist ideologue stubbornly refused to accept the simplest explanation, that voters parted with President Obama and his Democratic party on ideology. In fact, the simplest explanation was so unpalatable to Maher, he conjured up a nonsensical alternative.

[The blue dogs] lost on Tuesday. Those [Democrats] who said, “You know what? I’m not with Obama. I disavow him, even though he’s my president in my party.” They lost.

What does that tell you? You know, it tells me that this election was lost when Obama didn’t back the public option. To me, that was the one key thing that said to the people - You know what? This is no different than the Al Gore Democrats, the old Al Gore playbook. “Let’s run from our achievements. And let’s not stand for what we believe in.”

To his credit, Zakaria did not let Maher get away with such cognitive acrobatics.

Zakaria said:

Fundamentally, 85% of the country has healthcare and worries about cost. 15% [of the country] doesn’t [have healthcare] and worries about access.

Maher's problem is he thinks 15% have everything and 85% have nothing.

Maher's problem is he thinks...

Maher's problem is he doesn't think, or read.

Shouldn’t there be a rule that comedians should be funny every decade or so. Calling Republicans stupid has been defined as funny rather than actually telling jokes.

Pray for America

I’m optimistic. If the liberals maintain this denial, conservatives have a chance for a landslide in 2012.

Maher could not understand why voters would cast their ballots for Republicans.

Add this to the list of the many many things that Bill Maher doesn't understand.

Fundamentally, 85% of the country has healthcare and worries about cost. 15% [of the country] doesn’t [have healthcare] and worries about access.

I'm in a business that serves basically, that 15% referred to here. I'm here to tell you that they were not worried about access at all. These are people who have been going to emergency rooms, and though they don't like emergency rooms, they are not worried one whit about paying for the services they receive. These are people who generally speaking already have credit problems, and this community knows that NOTHING happens when they don't pay medical bills.

I realize I'm generalizing here, yes, there are some who have no health insurance and actually pay their bills, but the overwhelming majority don't. I'm just saying that perhaps 90% of that 15% didn't really care about "access", especially once they were aware they would have to begin paying for health care. How does it get better than free?

You know, if our side would quit paying attention to Maher, his career would mercifully end quickly.

Progressive caucus is saying the same thing. We didn’t push our agenda enough. We were timid. We backed down

Let them run.

Yes... what the public objected to was that the health care bill DID NOT provide government heath care and total control...

Run with that Maher

I’ll always be curious as to why we turn to comedians and pretenders as a source of well-constructed thought in regard to our constitutionally-protected rights. Why are we so genereous as to give them attention? They deserve nothing outside of what they choose to do for attention and dollars; act or generate giggles.

Give the camera time and the sound bites to people who actually have verification of a brain. TV and Hollywood persons are assumed to be there for entertainment value. Some occasionally are. Most are just clutter.

Two things that will never intersect: Bill Maher’s brain and reality.
