Sarah Palin didn't retreat. She reloaded. And she proved, again, that she is a ruinously incompetent politician.
Over the weekend, liberal pundits overeagerly speculated that she may have inspired the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.). After learning more about alleged shooter Jared Loughner, many of those same commentators restrained their criticism of the former Alaska governor, and polls showed that Americans are skeptical of any connection. People recognized Palin had been unfairly implicated in the Arizona massacre. She didn't even have to mention it in her response to the tragedy and the resulting debate. Everyone would have been thinking it. Even her critics would have had some sympathy.
This was political T-ball. All she needed to do was acknowledge the tragedy, condemn violence and praise unity in times of national crisis. If she really had to, she could gently warn Americans not to let partisanship color their reactions to public tragedy. She would be praised for her restraint, and with reason; for once, she would have been the more adult party in the debate.
Instead, she decided to appear partisan and opportunistic. As Greg Sargent notes, she accused her enemies of acting in bad faith. Not only that, she, somehow, raised the rhetorical stakes by charging her opponents with manufacturing a "blood libel," language associated with centuries of anti-Semitic murder. I bet she didn't know the historical genesis of the phrase. Which merely makes her recklessly careless in a time of national mourning. And she rejected any notion that her overheated rhetoric was ever overheated -- by using yet more overheated rhetoric about her opponents, who "mock" America by "muzzling" her First Amendment rights. Most of America is willing to let you say what you want, Ms. Palin, but we don't have to like it....

No retraction, no apology, no correction ... when the facts came in, and Sarah was found to have no bearing whatsoever on the shooter - the brave, tolerant and enlighted left found it in their person to RESTRAIN their criticism. Oh, how magnaminous of them.
So when the mass media attempts to incite violence against you, you should do what?
1. apologize and go into hiding?
2. admit your guilt and plead for leniency from the media?
3. tell them to go to hell

Overhere in Italy, we get one news channel that every third hour is Fox, then CNN does an hour and then MSNBC does an hour and then it is back to Fox. It is on base and I am happy to see Fox every third hour.....anyway the CNN hour had Wolf Blitzer on and he was saying that she was using a teleprompter and was using it well just like Obama uses it in speeches. Also he said that Sarah spent a fortune on this as it was very staged. The good thing is only about 300,000 people will hear this. I am now in the Fox hour and I am watching Glen Beck....much better.
I have never seen a conservative hold up against a concerted, viscous, personal attack from the left so well as Sarah has. Everything she says 10 lefty pundits immediately attack her. If she responds to the attack 20 lefty pundits immediately attack her for defending her self. If she stays silent they attack her for her silence.
But this is good for her. Making her stronger. Gotta learn how to take it because it is the path any successful conservative has to walk. That’s just reality.
She’s so on target - and they can’t respond without proving her right.
What other excuse is there?
That they are so ideologically blind that any murderer, no matter how enamored of the Communist Manifesto, is to be called a right winger and connected to Palin WITHOUT any “bad faith” in evidence?
It wasn’t speculation on the part of media whores, it was an all out assault. They had no choice but to back off of their lies. It isn’t restraint. It’s fear of being exposed as partisan hacks. Leftists should not be allowed to make these kinds of political assaults without getting back as well as they give.
She spent a fortune on a 7-minute, well-done video clip of her talking to the camera?
Palin knows exactly what a Blood Libel is, and what’s more she knows what to do with one when it’s flung at her. She has taken the Left’s filthy rope woven of lies and hate, tied it around their collective necks and given it a tug.
Now we get to watch as the Blood Libel Media kick the air and die. Suck on that vivid yet non-target-related imagery Stromberg!
