KUED and KBYU, the two local PBS stations are having their Spring fund drives again. Again the quality of programs goes down and you see non stop every 15 minute hosts that have come out of the woodwork asking you the viewer to give to public television so they can continue to give us quality programming.

I like the way they run tributes to 50’s music, or Glenn Miller, or air Ken Burns miniseries during fund drive time, and the next day back to documentaries regarding the Dali Lama and lesbian mothers.

If PBS gets so much money from the government....us....then why are they always begging viewers for more?

I recall a time when a 30 minute program on PBS was 29 minutes long and had one "underwriters" shout out at the beginning and end of the program. Now they have 8-9 minutes of commercials. A 30 minute program is now 22 minutes. A 60 minute program is 45 minutes. Let them stop running ads (and they ARE ads) and stop sucking at the Gubmint teat and then MAYBE I'll donate. But not a cent until then.

Let the heads of the affiliate stations take some pay cuts. They make HUGE salaries.

The best "Ken Burns" documentary ever made.

seems like the local pbs stations here have more pledge drives than programming. they’re kind of like teats on boars these days with all the other stuff out there.. like history, discovery, and way too many other channels to be named ..

I do enjoy seeing the old time TV specials on the Golden
Age of Entertainment. not sure how I would rate it these days.

There are a few decent children’s shows on PBS on Sunday mornings, or at least there were when I was little. Still, I remember at the start of each show they mentioned that “This show was made possible by Viewers Like You”. I guess the tanking economy put an end to that.

I enjoy “This Old House” and “New Yankee Workshop,” despite that Norm Abrams is insufferable—though extremely talented. Both are good shows. There’s a lot of crap on PBS, too, but I guess that’s true for most channels.

Me either. The Begging is pretty much nonstop by me.

Latest outrage was a PBS commercial asking - point blank asking - to be remembered in peoples' wills.

Reminded me of medieval church corruption, where you could buy your way into heaven by signing away all your land on your deathbed.

They have asked for people to donate their homes when they die or go to a nursing home, for years.

Up here in New York, they put on rock shows and Oldies shows, promising that your contributions will clear the way for more of those shows. Never happens.

That's because the taxpayers are going to pick up the tab. $150,000 in equity is going to pay for two years (maybe) at a nursing home.

My Mom died at 84. When she was 72, she sold her house and rented for the rest of her life. She traveled an drove nice cars, bought beautiful gifts for the family but still socked away enough cash to pay for three years of a nursing home (as an RN, her experience was that very few people lasted longer than that in a full-care facility.) When Mom went into the home, she was in so-so condition with pulmonary fibrosis. The cost was $7300 a month. She died after three months there.

Bottom line...protect your assets as much as possible from the government.

Back when there were only 3 channels PBS may have had a reason to exist. They were never constitutional but that never stopped the libs. But now they are taking money we don’t have. Good bye PBS.
