The U.S. Department of Justice ordered the Dayton, Ohio, Police Department to lower testing standards on its recruitment exam. Why? Because not enough blacks passed the test the first time around.
So the Dayton Civil Service Board made the required changes. Up until now, potential recruits needed to score 66 percent on the first part of the exam, and 72 percent on the second in order to move on to the next phase in the process. Under the new DOJ-ordered guidelines, 58 percent and 63 percent are now the benchmarks.
Based on the new, lowered standards, 258 more people passed the exam. Information has not been released regarding their demographics. But according to the Dayton Daily News, the city is now allowed to proceed.
A Dayton TV news website reports that Dayton NAACP President Derrick Foward disagrees with the mandated adjustments: The NAACP does not support individuals failing a test and then having the opportunity to be gainfully employed. If you lower the score for any group of people, youre not getting the best qualified people for the job.

Women Firefighters: The Gender Boondoggle
...quietly rolled back strict physical requirements, just like Manning, implementing a secret "no fail" policy to pass women who plainly could not heft chain saws up ladders or run with heavy hoses, or who had other physical deficiencies. In the almost entirely male yet multiracial force, firefighters were furious that academy rejects were getting through, and many questioned whether Bamattre was jeopardizing firefighters and the public.

Foward gets it, sort of. Why not raise the required scores for all people if you are looking for the best people, not just leave the scores where they are?
If you don’t like under-qualified cops, just wait til Obamacare is implemented. Those under-qualified doctors have to work somewhere.

Wow. Good for him. I can’t believe that I just read that but wow. He actually disagrees with lowering standards.
this has been going on here in the northeast for 30+ years...for police and fire departments...
tests are dumbed down for physical and intellectual requirements...
we are committing societal suicide...
This has been going on in business, universities...everywhere.
It would be difficult to staff up adequately if the standards were higher. Stronger-minded people tend not to be employed as door-busting, dog-shooting, ticket-writing, thugs. Dumb, insecure gang-mentality union types are the order of the day.
Dear, sorry you missed the point. There isn’t enough time in the world to explain it to you.
Run along, now.
Typical high school response. I am so sick of you folks that can’t contribute to the article. It really is not difficult.
“He actually disagrees with lowering standards.”
He probably disagrees with lowering standards for everybody instead of giving extra points to just the protected class he represents. That was the first thing I thought of when I read his statement. Sad, I know.
Test scores lowered for blacks tell us the following:
*That blacks are too lazy to study as hard as other racial groups.
AND/OR
*That blacks are too stupid to compete.
The U.S. Department of Justice appears to be sending a racist message - or the above statements are true...

If I may be so presumptuous as to speak for the poster you responded to; I think the point is that Obama care will result in a shortage of doctors due to the good ones leaving the profession (plenty of evidence for this out there), and a lowering of medical school admission standards to backfill the shortage.
May I attempt to be of assistance?

Yes, it's called the "disparate impact" doctrine. It is one of the most totalitarian doctrines ever handed down by the courts. It's genesis was in the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
A lot of Freepers seem to be wholly unaware of the doctrine and its compliment of regulations in the appearing in the Federal Register.
"Disparate Impact" doctrine is one of the reasons I so forcefully oppose school vouchers for private tuition.
If people believe that "disparate impact" doctrine won't be used to destroy private schools with lower standards after vouchers become widespread, they are so woefully naive as to be dangerous.
How long before cops arrive at a crime scene and the first thing they do is exchange fist bumps and gang signals with the perps. Why don’t they just give a badge to anyone that applies?
So many cops now are so stupid that they should never have access to a gun. Then you tell me the people in charge are dropping the standards even lower?
