Next week, “Gangster Government: Barack Obama and The New Washington Thugocracy” hits book shelves. (The gangster government term has been popularized by Rep. Michele Bachmann and columnist Michael Barone — who writes the foreword to this book).
As the title suggests, New York Times bestselling author David Freddoso has taken an in-depth look at how President Obama has perfected Chicago-style politics in the White House. As Freddoso notes,
No one was suggesting that Barack Obama was a government version of Tony Soprano, who sends “Sicilian messages” or sells drugs or moonshine or untaxed cigarettes out of the White House basement. Gangster government is about something else: about governing without recognizing the legitimate limits of one’s power. It’s about officials who use public office to make winners into losers and losers into winners; who bend, break and make the law to help their friends and punish their enemies….Obama didn’t come to Washington from Mount Olympus. He came from the corrupt and dirty politics of Chicago.
Freddoso’s previous effort, “The Case Against Barack Obama” was the first published book to be critical of Obama — but that was before Obama started governing. Clearly, the last two years have provided plenty of examples for a follow-up effort.
In the aftermath of the tragic shooting in Tucson, for example, there were calls for a new civility and tone in politics. Much finger pointed was aimed at Sarah Palin and conservatives. Yet, this book demonstrates that this President is anything but civil in his rhetoric and in achieving his far left political objectives.
For the past two years, shooting directly from the presidential pulpit, Obama has used bullying and intimidation to attack those who disagree with his policies, rewarding his friends at the direct expense of the American people:
For all the high-minded reform rhetoric of his 2008 campaign, all the talk of a “new politics,” all the passages in his books about respecting others’ points of view, Obama’s response to people who objected to his administration’s massive expansion of federal power was to deride and insult them. He didn’t merely criticize his political opponents or conservative talk radio hosts, he disparaged and belittled the voters who disagreed with him as irrational or “teabaggers.”
“Gangster Government” documents how Obama and his administration have pushed unpopular policies such as the wasteful stimulus, government bailouts and health care reform, while at the same time attacking large segments of the voting population and ignoring an election mandate from the public.
In short, Freddoso dives in and does the job many reporters, unfortunately, have refused to do.

$2 Billion More in Crony Capitalism is Exposed in the Obamacare Law

RUSH: This story Byron York had in the Washington Examiner on March 31st:
“Uncovered: New $2 Billion Bailout in Obamacare.”
Two billion of corporate cronyism, or crony capitalism, if you will.
For example, AT&T got $140 million to subsidize health care plans.
Verizon, $91 million.
General Electric, despite not paying any US income taxes last year, got $36 million.
General Motors, Obama’s car company, received $19 million in bailout money in order for them to be able to more easily afford health care within their companies.

RUSH: Two groups of people that the Democrat Party owns and it will forever, and I mean forever, present us an ongoing battle, and that is the media and unions.
And when you look at the fact that there were twice as many union members, public sector government jobs as there are American manufacturing jobs, the takers outnumber the makers in America today.
And it wasn’t that long ago, 40 years ago, JFK, “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” Today the motto of the Democrat Party, the motto of every Democrat constituency is, “Ask what your country can do for you.” Or worse, “Demand what your country must do for you.”

“The idea was to subsidize unions, states, and companies that had made commitments to provide health insurance for workers who retired early — between the ages of 55 and 64, before they were eligible for Medicare.”
So it’s patently obvious what this was. The authors of Obamacare go to these various companies, institutions, unions and so forth and say,
“Here’s the deal: You shut up. You don’t oppose us. Go along with this. You commit to providing health insurance for your early retirees before they’re qualified or eligible for Medicare, and we’ll pay you for it. We’ll use US taxpayer dollars to cushion the blow on you at the corporate level and to also cushion the blow on us.”
So where’s the money going, this $5 billion of a slush fund?
“The biggest single recipient of an early-retiree bailout is the United Auto Workers.” Look at me. Are you listening to this?
Two hundred and six million dollars, your taxpayer money, went to the United Auto Workers to subsidize health care coverage for early retirees. Other big recipients were AT&T, $140 million, Verizon, $91 million, General Electric, $36 million. Obama Motors, also owned in part by the United Auto Workers, $19 million.
This is crony capitalism, but it’s worse than that. This is emblematic of all the things that the Democrats and this regime have been working so hard to do:
Take from the people who work and earn and produce and give it to your friends; give it to people who will shut up and not criticize you; give it to people who will vote for you; give it to people who will raise money for you.

I hope all this gains steam and gets some long legs very soon because before long, 0bama’s version of the Gestapo will be knocking on doors. And I’m not kidding one little bit.
Freddoso was . . .Ta DAAA . . . the final editor on “A Patriot’s History of the U.S.” We were still about 20,000 words long, and he came in and did a great job slicing out the material without compromising the message.
