Immigrant households have higher usage rates of welfare than native households, report finds

Households headed by immigrants have a substantially higher rate of welfare use than native-headed households, according a report released by the Center for Immigration Studies this week.

The report examined census data about the use of welfare programs – cash assistance, food assistance, housing assistance, and Medicaid – and compared usage by immigrant headed households with at least one child – those headed both by legal and illegal immigrants – with usage by native headed households with at least one child. 57 percent of immigrant headed households participate in at least one welfare program, compared to 39 percent of native headed households. Immigrant usage of food assistance programs and Medicaid are particularly higher – whereas for cash assistance and housing assistance programs, usage rates by immigrant and native households are virtually identical.

Immigrants from the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico and Ecuador have the highest rates of usage of welfare programs, while immigrants from the United Kingdom have the lowest, along with immigrants from India, Canada and Korea.

A major indicator of welfare use, according to the report, is education. 80.4 percent of households headed by an immigrant whose education does not exceed high school are enrolled in at least one welfare program. The number is similarly high for households headed by a native with that level of education – 76.3 percent of those households use some kind of welfare program.

The magnitude is different, however. According to the report, 31.9 percent of immigrant households with children are headed by someone who did not finish high school, compared to just 8.9 percent of native headed households – which contributes to the high rate of welfare use among immigrant headed households.

This does not entirely explain higher levels of immigrant welfare use.

It is really dumbfounding to me that any immigrant, legal or illegal, gets one single penny of welfare in any of its forms.

It is even more dumbfounding how we conservatives concede so many issues to these traitorous liberals when so many of our own people are suffering.

When the welfare funds dry up there’s going to be BIG trouble.

well trouble for the cities and trailer parks where most of them are concentrated. I’ve posted this before but I would love to see what would happen if welfare rats try to spread to flyover country.

“57 percent of immigrant headed households participate in at least one welfare program, compared to 39 percent of native headed households”

The 39% stat is really scary. Born, raised and educated here and 40% on welfare.

Yes there will be; riots will start and this time spread to the affluent communities, which are unused to being invaded by the underclass rioters. Don’t think that they won’t go there; welfare has been an excellent containment system, mainly keeping them complacent in the ghettos, but go figure, once that’s out, the marauding will start. Will be fascinating to see the welfare users (I’m on it, but only for the past year and seven months) panic once the funds dry up and they have no means of surviving. So they’ll go to places like Beverly Hills, or the affluent areas of Los Angeles and in New York, they’ll go to places like Manhattan or the Hamptons or Greenwich. Watching the celebrities defend themselves will actually be pretty funny.

Well, yes. That stat comes from people who were born on welfare and will continue to use it, knowing nothing else.

What happened to sponsors? My parents had to agree to sponsor my mother’s best friend when she came here from England. They assumed full responsibility for her room and board as well as healthcare until she got in her feet. She lived with us until she got her educational qualifications in line to pass the licensing exam for her profession.

They still do sponsors. Problem is none of the welfare programs care that there is paperwork saying someone else is responsible. They just sign em up.

When the welfare funds dry up we’re going to see greatly increased border enforcement: Mexico will do everything to stop the welfare rats from returning to their native land.

If I were an African farmer, making a dollar a day and watching my fellow tribesmen drop like flies from primitive diseases, I would do everything I could to break into this country. I would stop at nothing. Anything is better than starving to death in Africa.

Sad.

But obviously, we can’t let everyone in. Five billion people? That’s basically our open-door policy.

Yes, believable for sure. The first thing they learn is what freebie benefits to apply for.....it’s the first lesson they learn.
