Chevrolet has recalled Cruze compacts after a steering wheel fell off. The car was going 65 miles per hour. In it were a mother, a grandmother, and a 19-month-old grandson. Fortunately, the driver managed to stop inches from a guardrail.
Many people prefer to drive rather than fly. They know that statistically, driving is more dangerous. But they enjoy the feeling of being in control, though that feeling is partly illusory. A driver has no control over whether a semi jack-knifes in front of him, or whether someone is texting and rear-ends him − or even whether a poorly built car falls apart around him.
The desire to be − or at least to feel − in control is powerful. It causes difficulties in personal life and in politics. The underlying motivation of totalitarianism may be an insatiable urge to be in control. Consider efforts to control the economy, and even the climate.
Government Motors made the car. Why is is a surprise?
Like they say “It is good enough for government work”.
The plastic breaking and structural malfeasance was years ahead of the Government Motors tag.
Sounds like the cars now have the same quality as the old Soviet Moskvich, Pobedas, Volgas, and Zaporozhets!
In Soviet Russia car drives you! HA, ha, ha, ha!!!
Dude, it’s an optional feature!
I look forward to the congressional hearings.

When the govt doesn’t want you in control they really mean it!
Don’t forget the Yugo—that was a real peach. BTW, in high school I think I dated your sister, Phenyl.
One could drive any of them with Zil...
Interesting that the MSM was all over the “millions” of supposed defects found in cars made by non-union manufacturers some time ago but I have yet to hear anything on my local news about this issue.
why does “look for the union label” song come to mind?
Back in the 90’s, I saw a Ford Taurus sitting in a parking lot at my place of work with a collapsed front wheel. This after having been informed of the event by a coworker who owned the car and had it happen to him. Just sayin’.
How did she manage that...the tires (wheels)must have been in perfect balance
