VIDEO: Dem Rep. Pete Stark on the Debt Limit: "I think it's a political charade.."

At a townhall meeting on July 23, 2011, Rep Pete Stark said that he believes the debt limit is a 'political charade'.

Stark says, "You've heard a lot about the Debt Limit. And I guess that's - I don't know how many of you are worried about it or concerned about it. The fact is I think it's a political charade."

"I'm afraid that the Democrats have done that in the past, threatened to shut down the government. I don't think there's a chance that it will happen. I think the last time somebody did, they lost enough seats in the House of Representatives to convince them it was a dumbest thing they ever did. [It] doesn't get us anywhere, it doesn't help anybody, and to extend the Debt Limit is nothing more - than people have described it - than that the government's credit card doesn't run out of resources.

When we have our credit downgraded what will he say then?

There are limits to how much debt a country, a company, or a person can have before they loose everything.

Mr Stark, this isn’t fantasy land and the American People have NOT given you a perpetual ATM Machine at our expense.

These are inescapable facts of life, grow up and accept this reality.

It most certainly does matter, you imbecile.

Fortney Pete Stark, perhaps the biggest AH in all of Congress, and that's saying a lot. The guy is truly despicable. For those of you who know him, to know him is to hate him. He's one mean, arrogant, SOB. I despise the man.

If you need to censor me, go ahead. I needed to vent.

I agree with all your epithets thrown at the good Congressman from the East Bay. Stark Raving Mad fits his name....
But I have to agree with him here -- all of this seems like a Political Charade. Both parties want Government to grow and to increase their power...

I keep hoping that they'll (the Republicans) prove me wrong.
