Jonathan Alter has a well publicized piece on Bloomberg asking people opposing Barack Obama why he has been a bad president.

I know, I had to chuckle too.

Varied commentators have taken their stabs at answering the question. Classic non-conservative David Frum even took a swing at it. Mickey Kaus at The Daily Caller probably had the best answer.

But I thought I would take a swing at it too...especially in direct response to Alter's claims regarding the economy.

Obama's failure economically can be divided into two distinct parts: the stimulus, and everything after the stimulus.

1. The Stimulus Was A Failure

Only an extreme liberal could claim that the stimulus was a glowing success.

After the failure of "pump priming" during the New Deal, the stagflation of the 1970s, and Japan's lost decade of the 1990s, is there anyone other than a liberal who still believes that government spending can stimulate the economy? If the money is raised by either taxation or borrowing, it's akin to trying to raise the level of water in a swimming pool by dipping it out at one end and pouring it in the other end. If the money is created out of thin air, either electronically or by printing press, the only effect is to dilute the value of all money already in people's pockets, bank accounts, annuities, insurance policies, etc. Prices eventually rise to offset the dilution, and nothing has been gained. We are on our way to replicating Weimar Germany, or maybe Zimbabwe, with the current monetary policies.

Define “bad”. Depending on your outlook he’s been a GREAT president! His goals are/were to destroy the worlds greatest nation via the economy and to capitalize on the absolute stupidity of what is a good 55% of this country. Job well done!
