Merck is bankrolling efforts to pass state laws across the country mandating Gardasil for girls as young as 11 or 12. It doubled its lobbying budget in Texas and has funneled money through Women in Government, an advocacy group made up of female state legislators around the country.
...SNIP...
Perry has ties to Merck and Women in Government. One of the drug companys three lobbyists in Texas is Mike Toomey, Perrys former chief of staff. His current chief of staffs mother-in-law, Texas Republican state Rep. Dianne White Delisi, is a state director for Women in Government.
The governor also received $6,000 from Mercks political action committee during his re-election campaign.
The order is effective until Perry or a successor changes it, and the Legislature has no authority to repeal it, said Perry spokeswoman Krista Moody. Moody said the Texas Constitution permits the governor, as head of the executive branch, to order other members of the executive branch to adopt rules like this one.

Captain Gardasil will save us.
I’m glad all the dirt is coming out in the open.
"When both the House and Senate repealed the (vaccination) law six weeks later, Perry did not as he now claims listen humbly or agree with their decision.Human shield demagoguery. In response to the legislatures rebuke, the infuriated governor attacked those who supported repeal as shameful spreaders of misinformation who were putting womens lives at risk. Borrowing a tried-and-true Alinskyite page from the progressive left, Perry surrounded himself with female cervical cancer victims and deflected criticism of his imperial tactics with emotional anecdotes.
He then lionized himself and the minority of politicians who voted against repeal of his Gardasil order. They will never have to think twice about whether they did the right thing. No lost lives will occupy the confines of their conscience, sacrificed on the altar of political expediency. Perry, of course, has now put his own ghastly Gardasil order on that same altar but with no apology to all those he demonized and exploited along the way."

I guess there afraid of Perry.
I hope everyone pushing this nonsense will be happy with Romney as the nominee.
Michelle Malkin talks about opting out and the hurdles faced.
Freedom would be opting in.

Actually, they are called facts, and this is called “vetting the candidate.”
Sorry the truth bugs you so much, but that’s the way it has to be.
This ain’t activism.
Yes, good info there. It’s hard to figure out which part of this is the most infuriating, but the whole demagoguery thing is so reminiscent of Harriet Myers and Shamnesty. We were ‘sexists’ or ‘nativists’ for daring to oppose that. It tore the party apart for the sake of political backs-cratching. Unforgivable.
Has everyone suddenly lost 80 IQ points? Manditory vaccinations have been in place for decades all across this country. All of a sudden people are up in arms because Rick Perry signed an executive order, which included an opt-out? Seriously, there are more important issues which need to be discussed. This is nothing more than a red herring.
Sorry about that. It’s not really ‘news’ either since it’s from 07, so I wasn’t sure where to put it.
*ping*
Yes, GWB called us “vigilantes” for guarding the border (Minutemen), and Laura Bush called us “sexists” for opposing Harriet Meirs.
Ruling Class Elites.
No, just you apparently.
This has nothing to do with being for or against mandatory vaccinations or even the Gardasil vaccine. It has to do with the dirt surrounding the whole shady episode.
Obviously, the character of the man you push for POTUS doesn't matter to you, but it sure as hell matters to some of us.
As a born and bred Texan, I was never much of a Perry supporter. Like all governors, he did some things I thought were pretty good, and some I thought were pretty bad.
If he gets the nomination, that puts me in a quandary; I’d rather not have him for president, but whoever the R candidate is will get my vote—unless by some miracle, Sarah jumps in. Of all the candidates and possible candidates on the scene, she’s one I could happily vote for.
As it stands, I’ll vote for whoever the nominee is—anybody but obammy!
Miers.
Yeah, similar. And neither of those "took out" Bush. He was still better than Rove or Kerry, in a "not even close" way.
Still, the incident is quite illuminating.
Hmmmmmmmm.....
Miers.
Yeah, similar. And neither of those "took out" Bush. He was still better than --Rove-- GORE or Kerry, in a "not even close" way.
Still, the incident is quite illuminating.
