Not true.
I knew an active full of life alert 93 year old woman. One day she decided to paint her front door before her diner guests arrived. Yes, she was giving a party that night. While painting, she fell and broke her leg, not hip. She died two weeks later.
In the hospital they tortured her by keeping her in the most uncomfortable positions. One time, they even had her upside down. The daughter tried everything to get her mom out of there. Problem was, the doctors changed daily. There was no sole doctor responsible for her. It seemed all doctors experimented on her to suit whatever agenda they were pursuing.
There were no daffodils or Vivaldi for this 93 YO "unit". She was tortured. There was no reason for her to be kept in the hospital just for a leg cast.
I’m a little confused when you say her daughter tried to get her mother out of there. I didn’t think a hospital could keep you against your will (unless it was a mental hospital.) My friend’s mother also broke her leg and when she said “I want to go home,” her daughter simply informed the doctors that her mother wanted to leave. Oh, they “advised against it” and all that, but she was out of there a couple hours later. The only delay was arranging for a ride back home.
