Are you better off today than you were $4 trillion ago? he asked a crowd of about 100 at a town hall meeting at The Music Man Square.
He said most of the problems the country faces stem from out-of-control government spending, too many taxes and too much regulation of business.
Perry said American jobs are not going overseas because of cheap labor abroad, as many people think.
The main reason manufacturing left the United States is because it became so difficult to do business in the U.S. because of all the regulations and taxes, he said.
The EPA is my favorite federal agency to dislike, said Perry.
He said new John Deere tractors built in eastern Iowa will cost $20,000 more next year because of new equipment required by the EPA. Its a great example of federal overreach, said Perry.
I want to make government as inconsequential as possible in your lives, he said.
Perry is a strong advocate of securing the border with Mexico, using local law enforcement, National Guard troops, aviation support and fast response teams.
When I am president, we will shut down that border within one year, he said."................
I was about to post this. A strong message.
Yes. Perry is taking it to the voters.
Compare and contrast with the guy who sat in Rev Wrights church for 20 years and never heard a word...
And it's not "too late" as some would have us believe. Perry's time at bat was early and they had little to hit him on even then. But the media and establishment would have us believe his entire cadidacy rested on the early debates, not so.
Hang in there Governor!
180 degrees.
While Newt is throwing bombs on subpoena, impeach and arrest judges who disagree with his imperialism, it is refreshing to hear a more humble leader and candidate make a positive pitch this weekend before Christmas.
The way Chris Wallace was trying to make a human being out of Mitt and evoke emotion on his Sunday morning show was appalling but telling. The full court press is out to install Romney as our nominee.
Perry is a FIGHTER. You won't have to drag it out of him and push him back into the ring to campaign hard against Obama. Romney doesn't have it in him -- he'll dance.
"Humble" is a good description of Perry. Someone else said he has a "joy" about him when he campaigns. It's something we need now, humility, joy and a true blue fighter for conservatism and the USA.
Oh, but we aren’t electing a “preacher” but are electing a President, so I’m offended.
(Not)
:o)
Like he said, “someone’s values are going to govern.”
It’s the flat truth.
Undeniably.
We’ve had a very heavy dose of someone else’s values governing over our lives.
How’s that turning out?
I do not recognize the country I was born into and grew up in.
Not in any manner, way, shape or form.
Rick Perry doesn’t have to lie about himself and what he believes but the MSM will fast enough.
Exactly the opposite of what happened in 2008.
I like Perry I pray to God he goes back up where he belongs in the polls.
Ahhhhh, yes...the Obama coverup.
Why elect a man of character and deeds when we can elect another mealy mouthed politician? /s
I believe a lot of prayers are going up for Perry.
I am SO with Perry on this score: He's a "Tenth Amendment guy" from Day One. [The "originalist intentions" of the Framers still clearly resonate with him. JMHO FWIW.] And I notice that, right after he made the issue of "State's rights" topical again, both Gov. Romney and Speaker Gingrich have found it opportune to speak publicly in favor of the Tenth Amendment.
Thank you ever so much, Cincinatus' Wife, for posting this! I feel you will joining me in wishing Gov. Perry: Godspeed!
