I had thought there was at least one third bullet or weapon that had actually disappeared. Then again, the presence of an agent in Mexico or of any such incursion is an act of war.

You are probably thinking of the "third gun" found at the scene of Brian Terry's murder. Two were AK-47s which were allowed to "walk" under the ATF's Phoenix office's Fast and Furious operation. The third one was an SKS traced back to a Texas gun shop and sold to an FBI CI (confidential informant) who was the leader of the rip crew that got in a shootout with Brian Terry and his BP BORTAC team.
That had no relation to the murder of Jaime Zapata and the shooting of his fellow ICE agent Victor Avila.

I should also clarify that ICE agents Zapata and Avila were in Mexico on official business.
