Now to start out many of you know that there has been some problems with the Berkey filters allowing unfiltered water to leak through the bases. Well I tested mine over last weekend and they pasted with FLYING COLORS! I used cherry Koolaide mix and poured it into the filter. I was very please not only was there not a hit of red coloring there was absoultly no cherry flavor or order to the filter water. So test to make sure, but it seems not every filter has the problem.

I'm *definitely* going to be testing my Berkey this weekend. Also, several of us are finally getting off our duffs and making a group ammo buy (long overdue).

One important aspect of prepping is building up a big pool of survival knowledge. I have a vast library of PDF files on everything from canning food to raising goats. This week I'm going to acquire one of these, so that no matter what all that knowledge stays at my fingertips:

Top off your gasoline supply now before prices get too high. Don’t forget to add stabilizer.

I have a vast library of PDF files

If the power grid went down or Hussein takes over the internet you won't be able to access those files. Better to have them printed out.

Bought a 95-year-old treadle sewing machine. Yea, still works. $175.

This Ohio company sells to the Amish. Everything I’ve bought is good quality, good prices. While some of their oil lamps are Chinese, w/ equivalent prices, most of the merchandise is made in USA, some by the Amish.

True ‘hard’ copies are good. I was wondering can you read pdf files on a tablet? The news ones batteries last a good whille and I wouldn’t think it would take long to chrage them up using one of the many solar chargers with the ubs attachment.

A tablet is a good thing to have for reading your reference materials, especially if you have the solar charger.

Does anyone here have experience with solar photovoltaic roofing shingles?

Do they work as well as advertised?

I’ve been thinking of steam for powering various generators and such ... there are many manufacturers of the engines but there seems to be very little in the way of boiler manufacturers... comments?

I just ate napolitos with scrambled egg. I wasn’t sure I would like them but they are okay and I know where millions of prickly pear cactus live.

Build a wood gas furnace, instead.

All of your existing gear will run off wood gas, without any conversion at all.

I see that someone downthread already said this,

but look into a wood gasifier.

Get a natural gas powered generator and build/buy a wood gasifier and you have electricity.

Do you mean I should have a specific brand of tablet, or multiple tablets?

In a few weeks, the prickly pear cactus will be putting on fruit which makes great jelly if you’re into home canning. Also, can the juice.
