Agreed, but the sad thing in the eleven Western states is that the Feds own approximately 50% of the land already and want to keep people off of a good portion of it.

5 or 6 years ago people used to ride horses on the state land around here but they put in a triple row of posts sticking out of the ground and metal guardrails at the trail entrances with signs saying horses prohibited. There used to be places to park a few hundred yards off the road but those were all closed off about 2 years ago and now they aren't even clearing the trails. If a tree falls across the trail it stays.
Apparently there used to be more actual county roads through the state land but the old timers tell me that they closed the roads some 30 years ago. I was a good mile off the road and found an old rusty stop sign standing out in the middle of no where.
This isn't a great map because it doesn't show the state and federal land that's off limits. Also the spreading spiderweb of connecting corridors doesn't show.
