(Vanity, Long) A Campaign of Biblical Proportions, or, A Journey Through 1 Kings Part II

In my previous essay, (Vanity, Long) A Campaign of Biblical Proportions, or, A Journey Through 1 Kings Part I, I walked through highlights (or lowlights, if you prefer) of the current Presidential Campaign by one Barack Hussein Obama, making a note of the resemblance between his recent fortunes and a passage from the Bible -- a battle between Israel and Syria as recounted in 1 Kings 20. This work will expand on theme, but in a slightly different way: whereas the first essay led with the recent history, and then drew a parallel with the scriptural text, the current piece will continue along the thread of the scripture from where it left off, and draw conclusions for the present day. Be warned, however: unlike yesterday, the scripture passage is somewhat lengthy, and the sermon rather brief.

For memory’s sake, I repeat yesterday’s quote from 1 Kings as a separate paragraph before adding today’s text.

And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country. And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD. And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day. But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber. -- 1 Kings 20:27-30

And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save thy life. So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Benhadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother. Now the men did diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Thy brother Benhadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Benhadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot. And Benhadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away. And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him. Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him. Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray you. And the man struck him, so that in smiting he wounded him. So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face. And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver. And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it. And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets. And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people. And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria. -- 1 Kings 20:31-42(*)

Now, that is a a lot to digest at one go, so here’s the Cliff’s Notes version: Syria and Israel had been fighting a war. Syria’s leaders blasphemed God, so God gave the armies of the alliance over to defeat. Syrian re-gathered an equivalent force, saying that Israel’s God was a God of the Hills, not of the Plains, and attacked Israel a second time. By this time, God was really indignant, and Israel killed 100,000 ground troops in 1 day. The Syrian survivors fled into a fortified city, only to have the walls fall in on them. The back-story to this is that God was none-too-pleased with the Syrian King, Ben-hadad, in the first place, and wanted to use Israel to execute judgment upon him. But the King of Israel heard the Wormtongue-like promptings that Ben-hadad was his brother, and let him go. So God sent a prophet who disguised himself as a refugee from the battle, complete with real stab wound, who complained to the King that he had let a prisoner go, for which he was liable to pay either with his life, or a large sum of money. When the King replied that it was the man’s own fault, the prophet removed his disguise and replied with a divine tu quoque: you were supposed to take out Syria; since you didn’t, *your* kingdom will pay the price.

Now, what on Earth does this have to do with the present Presidential Campaign? Two things. First, the secular / Marxist / raving nutters who make up the top echelons of the Democrat party are not treating this -- nor, come to think of it, have they ever, not since the Party was overrun by Communists in the 1960s -- as a game, or a Marquis of Queensbury matter of honor, but as a deadly serious fight to the death. Obama himself has campaigned with rhetoric of “punch back twice as hard” and being about to “fundamentally transform the United States of America”. Look how entire INDUSTRIES are now wards of the state, such as GM; the homosexual assault on freedom of association (The Boy Scouts), freedom of speech (Chick-Fil-A), and the Armed Services (first openly lesbian general, queer marines); and the attack on Freedom of Religion under the guise of health (Obamacare mandates). And there is worse yet to come, if there is a second term. Think of Obama’s promises of “more flexibility” to Russia, to his pledge to try to drop the US nuclear arsenal to 300 warheads or less, his open dissing of the Israeli prime minister, his not-so-subtle cozying up to the nascent Caliphate.

Fortunately, or by God’s Grace, we may be given one more chance to make things right. While Romney is (at best) a GOP-e, a RINO, or a closet lib, still, he is not overtly hostile to the United States, or to our way of life, or to life (as opposed to abortion). So, yes, it is good that we defeat Obama in the election, as Syria’s troops were routed in battle. But there is one thing yet to do: and paradoxically, our risk of failure at this last item becomes all the larger as his risk of electoral defeat looms. What is worse, our enemies are on the cusp of realizing -- and acting upon it -- themselves. Examine the “signs of the times” : Rahm Emmanuel back in Chicago, Cass Sunstein no longer in the White House, but back at Harvard; the large donors turning from Obama; “the wisdom of crowds” -- in avoiding Obama rallies (“I *meant* to do that,” whines Pee Wee Hussein); even the press neglecting to give Obama his morning fellatio (to the point that the White House is talking more to the likes of People magazine than giving conventional press conferences), with Newsweek showing a “Why Obama Must Go” cover story. The rats, it seems, are getting ready to flee the sinking ship.

And this is our danger. If the Rats know that the S. S. Obama-Biden is doomed, they will first secure their own immediate political careers -- and then they will seek to safeguard the *party*. And the way they do that, is as it ever has been -- with spin. Can’t you hear the deadlines now? (“Could not overcome the rigid ideology of the House” or “Racist Tea Party” or “Romney stole the credit for Obama’s stimulus”). The talk has already begun. And this is important, not just for the here and now, not just for 2016, but for posterity (should we elect Romney and Ryan and manage to fight off the economic Ebola seeded into our system by the treasonous Democrats, under the guise of “Cloward-Piven”). If I say to you “Great Depression” then likely enough your first thought would be “Herbert Hoover” instead of the man who prolonged the agony until World War II relieved our torpor, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. There are still people alive today whose families instinctively vote Democrat because of one pinko aristocrat some eighty years ago. Just as past Dem campaigners solemnly intoned the vile lie “Reagan-Bush” to try to sully the accomplishments of Renaldus Magnus, they will try to separate Obama from the fruits of his work. We cannot let this happen: I want it to be, so that eighty years from now, people are STILL afraid to vote for Democrats, because of Obama: and worse, because they only voted for Obama because they hadn’t learned the lessons of Jimmy Dhimmi Carter. Just as Carter gave us the Ayatollah which gave us the hostage crisis, and then led way to many of the problems in the Middle East today (yes, Iran is arming Hezbollah, and has armed the insurgents in Iraq with sophisticated IEDs which have killed Americans), it is quite likely that Obama’s love affair with radical Islam will lead to decades of problems for the United States and the world. Not to mention the economy: a tripling of the national debt, to the point that many sane and sober commentators agree that the country may now be doomed to collapse.

Let’s hang this around the Democrats’ political neck like a flaming tire.

Because if we don’t -- if we allow misguided whisperings of moles and infiltrators to prompt us towards “bipartisanship” (“Yes, your brother, Ben-hadad”) -- then we run the risk, that just as the King of Israel was told, “Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people” -- that *we* -- or worse, all freedom in the West -- may still ultimately pay the price for The Obamessiah’s sins.

(*) Incidentally, the King of Israel at this time was Ahab: a very wicked man, whose wife, Jezebel (who put the Jewish prophets to death in favor of pagan gods) suborned perjury against a man in a capital case, in order to usurp the man’s property (Old Testament Kelo decision). The man was stoned to death. Ahab ended up being mortally wounded in battle (“a bow drawn at a venture”); he bled out from the wound, and in fulfillment of prophecy, the dogs licked up his blood in the same place that they licked up the blood of the man killed by his wife.
