Schweikert defeats Quayle (McCain, Kyl, Rice endorsed Quayle)

Rep. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.) defeated fellow freshman Republican Rep. Ben Quayle Tuesday, bringing to an end one of the cycle’s most heated member-versus-member primaries.

With 94 percent of precincts reporting, Schweikert led Quayle 53 percent to 47 percent, according to the Associated Press, which called the race for Schweikert.

Arizona gained an additional House seat following the decennial redistricting process. The new lines also prompted some reshuffling among the state’s current delegation. Quayle was faced with a choice: run in the swing 9th district or the more Republican 6th district. He chose the latter last winter, setting off a fierce competition for the seat.

As the race progressed, House Republican leadership appeared to prefer Quayle. That prompted the anti-tax Club For Growth to warn GOP leaders not to meddle in the race on behalf of Quayle. The Club said in a letter that if leadership made it clear it was behind Quayle, it would intervene on behalf of Schweikert. On Tuesday, the Club said it was pleased that House GOP leaders did not get involved.

“The House Republican leadership also deserves to be applauded for heeding our call to stay out of this race,” said Club President Chris Chocola.

Quayle is the 13th incumbent member of the House to lose in a primary so far this cycle.

I always thought Ben Quayle was quite a bit smarter than his Dad. I guess Ben didn’t have the courage to run in his new district so he tried to poach on someone else’s. I always enjoyed his tv appearances on cable news channels.

What is the big deal about swimming in the Red Sea? Is that a no-no? He had a swimsuit on . . a complete non-issue by the lib media.

Quayle was an anonymous porn site producer prior to his absurd stint in Congress.

Sweet. Now, if we can only get Schweikert to run against McCain next time.

This was a great win. Schweikert is a much better congressman. Both are going to vote right, but Schweikert seems to be better for the base. Glad the voters paid attention and didn’t just vote for the familiar name.

Fine, When conservatives finally have had enough abuse from the GOP-e and launch the Conservative Party of the Republic, there will be young leaders available who have been kicked out of the Geriatric Old Party. Let us pray for that happy day.

I’m reminded of the scene in a western where the hero and the villain are fist fighting it out, and the villain’s henchman is about to throw the losing villain a weapon, when the heroe’s sidekick draws on the henchman and tells him “let’s keep this a fair fight”.
