One former ISNA speaker won’t be in attendance this year — al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki was killed in a CIA drone strike in Yemen on September 30, 2011.

On September 1, 2001, just days before the 9/11 attacks, Awlaki gave an infamous lecture on “tolerance” at the 2001 ISNA convention, just as some of his disciples were preparing to launch the largest terrorist attack in American history.

One of his co-panelists in 2001, Hamza Yusuf, is one of this year’s keynote speakers. At the 1995 ISNA convention, Yusuf told the crowd that Judaism “is a most racist religion.””

SNIPPET: “We of course know about Awlaki’s involvement in recent years with terror attacks targeting the U.S., including his communication with Fort Hood killer Major Nidal Hasan and would-be underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, among others.

But even prior to the 9/11 attacks and his appearance at the 2001 ISNA convention, there was plenty of evidence that Anwar al-Awlaki was no moderate, and that his speech on “tolerance” was a ruse to lure unsuspecting infidels to mistakenly embrace the cleric — an act the media and government officials fell for.

A Chicago teen was arrested in Chicago for trying to blow up a bar with a car bomb. News 9 reported:

Undercover FBI agents arrested an 18-year-old American man who tried to detonate what he believed was a car bomb outside a downtown Chicago bar, federal prosecutors said Saturday.

Adel Daoud, a U.S. citizen from the Chicago suburb of Hillside, was arrested Friday night in an undercover operation in which agents pretending to be extremists provided him with a phony car bomb.

The U.S. District Attorney’s Office in Chicago announced the arrest Saturday and said the device was inert and that the public was never at risk.

Daoud is charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to damage and destroy a building with an explosive.

The FBI began monitoring him he allegedly posted material online about violent jihad and the killing of Americans, federal prosecutors said.

In May, two undercover FBI employees contacted Daoud in response to the material and exchanged several electronic messages with him in which he expressed an interest in engaging in violent jihad in the United States or abroad, according to an affidavit.

“Umran Javed: Jailed for terror material found on computer”

SNIPPET: “Umran Javed, 33, pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey, to three offences of possessing material likely to be useful in terrorism.”

SNIPPET: “Javed was jailed in 2007 for six years for soliciting to murder after telling a crowd to bomb Denmark and the US.

He was arrested in February 2006 when about 300 protesters demonstrated after cartoons satirizing Muhammad were published in newspapers in Demark and other European countries.”

SNIPPET: “The material was entitled Zaad-e-Mujahid and Incitement Of The Heroic Mujahadin In Reviving The Tradition Of Assassination.”

SNIPPET: “Javed had set up a web design business on leaving prison and did voluntary work, including at the multi-faith centre at the University of Derby.

He is expected to be freed in about six weeks because of time served while on remand.”

SNIPPET: “The Muslim Youth Center (MYC), an al Qaeda affiliate in East Africa and Shabaab ally, released a statement today on its blog as well as on Twitter that addresses the imminent assault on Kismayo by Kenyan and Somali forces. The combined Somali and Kenyan forces have been slowly advancing on the southern port city, and have taken Jana Cabdalla, a town just 25 miles from Kismayo. A Kenyan military officer claimed that more than 50 Shabaab fighters were killed during clashes in Jana Cabdalla.

In the Muslim Youth Center’s defiant announcement [reproduced in full below], the group said it would sent reinforcements to the city and claimed they would fight to the end.”
