School Lunches: The Food Fight Heard 'Round The World
The Silent Majority ^ | 09-28-12 | J.D. Longstreet

It would be laughable -- if our school kids weren't hungry!

By now, most everyone who pays attention, is aware of how our government, Big Nanny, has screwed-up school lunches so badly that our kids either won't eat the stuff or, they DO eat it and -- remain hungry.

This is just more evidence of what happens when the government takes an active hand in "helping" Americans.

Once again, I repeat my plea to the UIS government: "For God's sake -- stop helping us!"

ABC News reports the following: "School lunch trays are a bit lighter this year after Congress-approved calorie limits on school lunches went into effect in August. The new regulations, which were championed by First Lady Michelle Obama as part of her "Let's Move" campaign to fight childhood obesity, have inspired protests and even a video parody from students who claim the reduced lunches are making them go hungry." When you actually consider what the government is insisting be served our growing kids, even a simple-minded idiot can see why the kids are hungry.

Consider this -- also for the same report at ABC News: "Under the new regulations, cafeterias are required to serve twice as many fruits and vegetables while limiting proteins and carbohydrates. For an average high school student, that means two baked fish nuggets, a cup of vegetables, half a cup of mashed potatoes, one whole grain roll and 8 ounces of fat free milk is the fuel that served to get them through their last four hours of classes." SOURCE: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/OTUS/hungry-kids-grumble-healthy-school-lunches/story?id=17324285#.UGRYI66jg5v

Much, if not most, of what our school kids are being served in the school cafeterias is going straight from the food line to the garbage cans. They are not eating it.

My advice...pack your kids bag, and give them two baloney sandwiches, an apple, a Reese’s cup, and a bottle of Gatorade. The kid won’t be hungry until 6PM and he gets at least 800 calories.

“and a little child shall lead them.”

Seems timely.

Where in the world does the Fed. Govt get off, or even get the authority for that matter, to micromanage what our children eat for lunch?

Well, the author missed the point. The reason they want your children hungry (mine are homeschooled) is twofold. One, they want to be able to claim "More kids are hungry. We need more afterschool programs." Two, hungry kids are weaker and therefore are more malleable to suggestion/reward from their socialist teachers.

Yes, I am that cynical.

The part that gets me is the one about "limiting proteins". The building blocks of muscle mass, and we want developing children to come up short?

We can't send them to school with the old PBJ any more, and ironically, the peanut butter was a protein source developed by a black man...

They're just trying to make sure those low water toilets they mandated still work...

(/s, of course)

Actually, seriously, when you let them decide what you can or can't consume, it really opens a Pandora's Box of regulatory opportunities. (There is no Constitutional authorization for the Federal Government to regulate what people willingly consume).

Maybe they are running out of ADHD drugs and want to slow the kids down again (after years of sodas and high carb diets).

Let’s see.
The gov. picks up the kid, practically at the door, drives him/her around for a hour. Schools drop Phys Ed for lack of time (spent it on the bus) drive them back home for an hour. Can’t participate in after school activities, no time (spent on the bus).
Then the kid sits in front of the video game, TV, computer. Never goes outside to play.
Yep, it’s school lunch making them fat.

“Congress-approved calorie limits” In the House, if a vote was taken, it even had to include a bunch of “nitwit” Republicans. They get up there in that Washington Bubble, and just can’t leave well enough alone.

Schools and prisons, not much different, and regulations provide standards for meals. And MickieO's seem to be in the general range for prisoners.

“Bornhoft said one lunch last week of garbanzo beans, brussel sprouts and tomato juice was a particularly unrealistic meal choice for school-aged kids.”

Beans and brussel sprouts, OMG. The roof will fly off the building.

IIRC, if they don’t take a veggie, they get charged “ala carte” prices.

then the veggie goes in the garbage any way. what a scam.
