In the old days they would call Elon Musk “a confidence man,” always ready to sell the latest and greatest brand of snake-oil.

Musk and his posts calling Broder a liar are fully in keeping with the personality of “Mr Make Kissy Lips at Obama” Musk.
Musk always goes after anyone who tells the truth about the car.
Anyway, according to a troll from the prior thread on Musk, Musk has more than enough money of his own to finance the car out of his opwn pocket -he doesn’t need taxpayer subsidies to do it.

"John Broder, who test drove the Tesla Model S in frigid conditions that required frequent unplanned recharging stops throughout the Northeast,..."
Heh. Try driving one at high elevations on the Rockies in the winter. Park it overnight at over 9,000 feet or so, then drive it over 100 miles each way during the day. I wouldn't want to try that, but it's alright if someone else does. ;-)

LOL! That's not cold! Try driving an electric car, where temps go down to 30 below.

Musk is pretty good at selling the public too.
My buddy’s daughter put down $5 grand deposit on a new Tesla SUV that won’t even be built until 2014, LOL.

[Buys 17million dollar home, received 465 million dolar loan. True Believer in thread keeps boosting how much Musk is worth and doesn’t se what the problem is.]

Rather, Broder noticed a dramatic, sudden drop on the battery indicator...Actually, the NY Times article about the performance of LiIon batteries is fairly accurate.
They perform as advertised when their temperature stays above 70F and below 120F. When you take them outside this range, they suffer serious performance loss.
If you get them too cold, they won't charge and they won't discharge, as Broder found out with his winter test-drive.
If you get them too hot they will vent and if you get them really hot, they'll burst into flames, as Boeing found out with the 787.
