Billy J. Kramer (born William Howard Ashton 1943) in Liverpool, England came to fame as yet another Merseybeat act that went on to join the 'British Invasion' of the US market in the early 1960s.
Like the Beatles, he was managed by Brian Epstein, and in fact Kramer went on to record a number of Lennon/McCartney compositions over time.
I myself am a big fan of the band, as I've become interested in Merseybeat bands in general over the last few years. But somehow this particular song catches my imagination, even though I only first heard it a couple years ago, as it came out when I was three.
The tune "Little Children" went all the way to #1 in England, and a decent #7 stateside.
Unfortunately, British TOTP appearance intro'd by serial pervert/rapist Jimmy Saville...

I’ve always wondered if the “Dakotas” part of the name referred to an incarnation of the DC-3. Anybody know?

I dunno, but the Byrds were into planes... Eight Miles High had nothing to do with drugs!
Love love loved this song.
The other side of the 45 was Bad to Me.
Well, the original 1966 video for “Eight Miles High” was about as trippy as black and white gets.
