This book is a must-read for anyone interested in the Second Amendment, and the type of crap that may be or is going on in this country. While fictional, this book nails it on the loss of our freedoms and the sentiments of many pro-2A folks out there.
This book has been out of print for a long time, and to score a copy one would have to spend $70 or more on eBay or Amazon. For now, thats over. Buy direct from John Ross website.
By the way, Im not getting paid for this plug. I read the book 7 or 8 years ago and it really changed the way I see things. Im posting this purely because I can testify to how great of a book it is. The first 250 or so pages are tough to get through, but once you make it far enough into the book, it really takes off. A must read.
I am glad that I bought my signed first and second editions when they came out (gloat). I bought a case of signed second editions and gave them away to family and friends.
UC in print? In softcover?
WOO-HOO!
Great book and I always thought with a good scriptwriter it would make a good movie.
wish I held on to my copy
Very good book. I have recommended it to many. That said, the book contains a good bit of unsavory sexual content which is quite gratuitous and doesn’t make me 100% thrilled about recommending it (but I do).
“It’s a must-read!”
As with your books (Matt Bracken is an accomplished author, for those who do not know, who also comments on frerepublic under the screen name Travis McGee), they are best started on the weekend when you do not have any plans or urgent projects that must be done.
When I first read UC, I had to struggle to concentrate on the job the next day. It, and Matt’s books, were very difficult for me to put down.
“Great book and I always thought with a good scriptwriter it would make a good movie.”
There are a number of books that would make great movies that are passed over because they do not reinforce the correct political agenda.
A pity there’s not an official E-book version of it.
Paying 40 bucks for a paperback is a stretch, especially in the Obamaconomy. HARDCOVERS don’t sell for that much. . .
Timely.
$40 bucks delivered isn’t bad for 800+ densely printed pages (and one of the most important books you’ll ever read).
“I still have my original. It’s worth a lot more than I paid for it.”
I’ve got a signed original, I wonder what it’s worth? I don’t think I’d sell it though, I love that book.
Unintended Consequences [Hardcover] John Ross (Author), T. J. Mullin (Foreword)
"Unintended Consequences" is monstrously long, and that in itself is an obstacle for a screenwriter. It's why "Atlas Shrugged" had to be done in three parts.
That said, I think the story is a good one and can be worked into a good film. But they key word is "worked." It won't self-adapt like Hunger Games.
Mine is unsigned, but at least I have it.
I admit, it is long, and that would be a problem.
I think Matt Bracken’s Enemies Foreign and Domestic, or better yet, Castigo Cay, would be easier movies to make.
The first 250 pages... ?
The prime content (for most readers/viewers) of UC starts around page 700 (where the first page repeats). The prior voluminous content provides solid backstory which could be sufficiently covered by suggestive short flashbacks.
Methinks the sexual content (vicious as most of it is) exists primarily to establish a reason for the characters’ willingness to go WAY over the line once the BATF gives them a reason to; such violent situations are no longer hindered by surprise and ambivalence. Again, useful as complete written content, but sufficient in summary form for movie production.
