The Fryemont Inn, Bryson City, NC in the Great Smoky Mountains. Rustic, and close to the Appalachian Trail for some day hiking.

Ventana Inn and Spa, Big Sur, CA. Also has Ventana campground in the redwoods with cabins. Big Sur = heaven on earth.
