A Planet Full of Sexual Pirates
Blog & Mablog ^ | 6-22-13 | Douglas Wilson

A commenter in the earlier post about Exodus International is checking to see if I am ashamed of Leviticus 20:13 yet, which I am not. But before proceeding, let me quote that verse in full.

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them” (Lev. 20:13).

This passage is the Word of God, and before moving on to how we are to receive and apply it today, let us — by which I mean all Christians who believe the Scripture — affirm that this law, as originally given, was holy, righteous, and good. This means that in the time of Moses, if a homosexual acted out his impulses, doing what is here forbidden, and was caught in that deed, and was duly tried and executed, no injustice whatever was done. This law, along with the rest of God’s law, teaches us what holiness means. To apologize for it, or to refuse to talk about it, because the perpetrators of unholy deeds today might find it offensive, is to contribute heavily to the lostness of a very lost generation.

So what about today? How should passages like Lev. 20:13 be received and applied? There are legitimate secondary questions that arise from this, like what the ideal law would be in a postmillennial republic. I have written about this elsewhere, but our chief task is to get there, and not so much to speculate about what it might be like when we do. And so how are we to get there? The answer is gospel, and nothing but gospel, and passages like Lev. 20:13 (unapologized for) play a key role in this.

Once Ubama's collapse comes, political correctness will no longer exist.

We'll be amazed at how quickly all the homosexual bullies will slink back into their closets.

contraception = sex without consequences.

After the birth of my 2nd child in 1984, I had a vasectomy.

Am I going to Hell?

Anyone who wants to kill homosexuals should be prosecuted for attempted murder, whether or not they believe in Leviticus.

The rights of the homosexual is the same as the heterosexual. Only a complete religious theocrat would be asking for homosexuals to be executed.

I disagree. I think it is sex with lower risk of conception and transmitting venereal disease. And those are not “consequences”. They are a potential result. A married couple that uses contraception is not trying to avoid “consequences”. They are trying to avoid conceiving. They are not the same thing. Consequences is a judgmental word that may or may not apply to a pregnancy.

Yep. I’m steeped in the OT right now. If one takes the attitude you discuss, we would also stone most of our young women to death for sex before they were married - kinda like the muslims do.

And I eat pork...

Actually the Bible said the world was round in the Old Testament. It has a far better record of being right than science ever dreamed of.

May I remind you and yours that God is the same today as he ever was? What was an abomination to Him when He gave the Law to Moses, is STILL an abomination to Him Today.

From the internet, a bit of Bible history.

"Tyndale had been forced to flee England, because of the wide-spread rumor that his English New Testament project was underway, causing inquisitors and bounty hunters to be constantly on Tyndale's trail to arrest him and prevent his project. God foiled their plans, and in 1525-1526 the Tyndale New Testament became the first printed edition of the scripture in the English language. Subsequent printings of the Tyndale New Testament in the 1530's were often elaborately illustrated."

"They were burned as soon as the Bishop could confiscate them, but copies trickled through and actually ended up in the bedroom of King Henry VIII. The more the King and Bishop resisted its distribution, the more fascinated the public at large became. The church declared it contained thousands of errors as they torched hundreds of New Testaments confiscated by the clergy, while in fact, they burned them because they could find no errors at all. One risked death by burning if caught in mere possession of Tyndale's forbidden books."

And so, might I repeat ... The Earth is not flat.

I bet there are thousands and thousands of couples who thought that very same thing...they're called "parents" now.

12 Doesn't the OT condemn tattoos? There is some explainin’ to do when they get judged cus’ there is a lot of folks with em’ nowadays.

Leviticus 19:28 (NIV, © 2011) 28 Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord.

2/13/2012 - A Harris Poll of 2,016 adults surveyed online between 1/16-23/2012 was released by Harris Interactive. The poll looked at the number of Americans who currently have tattoos, and what those tattoos may say about them.

 Currently 21% of U.S. adults has at least 1 tattoo which is up from the 16% and 14% who reported having a tattoo when this question was asked in 2003 and 2008, respectively.

 Tattoos seem to be most prevalent in the West-26% of adults in that region report having at least 1 - compared to fewer in the East (21%), Midwest (21%) and South (18%).

 Adults aged 30-39 are most likely to have a tattoo (38%) compared to both those younger (30% of those 25-29 and 22% of those 18-24) and older (27% of those 40-49, 11% of those 50-64 and just 5% of those 65 and older).

 Women are slightly more likely than men, for the 1st time since this question was first asked, to have a tattoo (now 23% versus 19%).

Yes it is. ;-)

But babies are not “consequences”. They are the result. “Consequences” is what happens when you get caught committing a crime.
