Would it be okay to defend myself with a bigger axe handle or does it have to be the exact same size?
What if the assailant isn't responding to diplomacy and I don't have an approved axe handle handy?

Well, see then, you explain the situation to your attacker and make an appointment for him to return and accost you at a later time after you've been able to obtain the approved self defense axe handle. Being a Democrat, your attacker will of course be the very soul of reason and will agree immediately.

My axe handle has an actual rating...it's .45 caliber. I'll use it accordingly.

What if the assailant isn’t responding to diplomacy and I don’t have an approved axe handle handy?”

(In British accent): RIGHT, then! Take one banana, peel it and throw the peel smartly at the assailant’s foot! He will thereupon slip and fall directly on his arse, at which point you can run away!!! /s;)
