I don’t think its a good comparison. Interns at prestigious organizations are not paid very well, and often not at all, in order to keep the riff raff away. If you need the money, you need not apply. They are looking for trust fund babies who will bring their social and power connections, and the prospective interns are looking to get into a socially connected organization. The big bucks come later.
Walmart hires people who do real work and they pay the market rate. Its an entirely different world.
